An antique gate leg table in a studio. The wood is very dark, the top is hand planed, and stylistically, it may have been made in the 1760s? In the background, there's a tiny tea table that is also very old.
The top of the gate leg table, freshly polished. The top is oval when opened, though the table may have originally had a rectangular top that was cut down. It is made of oak, or maybe chestnut?
A detail view of one of the rails for the gate leg, showing where an earlier opening was filled in, suggesting that the table may have had a different, larger top at some point.
A small side table. I don't know how old this is, but it has a couple of hand forged nails underneath, suggesting is is from the early 1800s (or a bit before? I don't know as much about old New England furniture as I'd like). Both pieces of furniture came from thrift shops near my home in southern Vermont.
It was antique furniture rescue day at my local thrift stores! An 18th century gate leg table and a little tea table came home with me. I have zero ability to resist objects like this.
