Struck by great admiration, from a wordsmith perspective, of the talent & technical skills it takes not only to describe an aardvark in great anatomical detail but to describe it from the perspective of someone born in the 1700s in a style also easily read by someone in 2026. #PatrickOBrian 📚🌊⚓✍️

I really like Killick, lol. As for weevils, to my surprise, they ate pretty well in Bk 2, though there was one fish dish whose seasoning sounded revolting. 😆

I don't wargame AoS but I do love the O'Brian books. Saturday I was looking at the bookshelf and it suddenly hit me that the books lined up in numerical order make a picture. I've had the things for 15 years and only just figured this out. Sheesh.

As much as I love the Aubrey-Maturin series of historical books from Patrick O'Brian, the one element that is a tad unbelievable is the idea that one can make close, supportive and affectionate friends as an adult.
