The buzzing of Achilles’ phone rattles from the bedside table.
Zagreus can feel the man’s reluctance—a groan rumbling again his skin, and then the warmth of his breath drifting away, as Achilles groggily rolls over to reach for the thing working up a fuss for his attention. There is a pause; he jolts upright suddenly when he sees the name on the caller ID.
“It’s Agamemnon,” he says, to no one in particular.
He answers the phone, pinning it between his ear and shoulder. He gets out of bed and hastily slips into a pair of sweatpants that had been on the floor, returning the pleasantries coming from the other end as he steps out onto the balcony. His voice is muffled out there, and Zagreus cannot make out precisely what he is saying. He and Patroclus sit up, watching him intently from the bed. Zagreus knows this is the moment Achilles and Patroclus have been anticipating for years. Finally, everything for them is about to change.
