Concept sketches for The Lingering Smile featuring the sheathed and unsheathed sword and a visual FX sheet.
Close-up of the sword with its phoenix themes and gold inlay. Plus a bit of lore written in the top which reads: A handsome gift from a friend. A Lingering Smile to keep the sword master safe till their next meeting. Red Jade, Orichalcum, and gold, with a decorative accent of fire opal in the hilt. The glowing gems in the sheathe show the sword’s remaining power. The sword is strongest when it is sheathed, offering a bonus to Social stats. When drawn, however, the sword gifts the wielder a magnificent flashing draw wreathed in sunlight and embers, much like the Righteous Devil that has committed motes to this sword’s use. After 3 draws, the sword returns via Elsewhere to its commissioner, to be retrieved upon the lovers’ next reunion.
The FX sheet for The Lingering Smile. Featuring a crown of filligree gold and peacock style feather eyes with streaming phoenix tails.
My fave piece of the year - "The Lingering Smile" sword concepts. I consider equipment, weapons, & FX a huge weakness for me, but this image pushed me in untested ways. I'm pleased with the results & how much fun I had along the way!
