Taken 24 September 2013, at Purfleet on the north bank of the river Thames. A view across the River to Dartford Marshes. Landscape format, lower part of the photo shows the river and bank, the upper part shows part of a disused jetty, skeletal, metal struts and arching top part with 6 birds, probably cormorants, a various points on the arch, then a blank sky above them. Cormorants are coastal sea birds that have 'colonized' inland; the River Thames at Purfleet will be mostly if not entirely sea water and there is an RSPB reserve just upriver of Purfleet and Dartford Marshes just across the river, so no reason at all there shouldn't be cormorants here ! Birds and jetty in silhouette. Taken with a Nikon D7000 and Tamron 70.0-300.0 mm f/4.0-5.6 lens.
