Yesterday our volunteers Ian B and Ian C dug out an old fingerpost near Ashton Keynes in Wiltshire, replaced it with a new one made by volunteers in our workshop; they cleared overgrowth, replaced a fingerboard and cleaned waymarkers. All in a day's work π #volunteers #thamespath #fingerpostfriday

A pollarded Willow from the #ThamesPath at Day's Lock Oxon. Home to a Little Owl.
Pollarding willow trees, like these two on the #ThamesPath in Oxford, gives them longer lives, great habitats for bats, insects, birds and plants, and naturally thicker trunks...perfect for #thicktrunktuesday @ticl.me
Remembering Rambler David Sharp, born #OTD 100 years ago. David was the 'father' of the Thames Path, leading surveys, relentlessly negotiating the route and writing guide books before it was approved in 1989. Kate Ashbrook's tributeπ campaignerkate.wordpress.com/2015/05/13/d...

An man and a woman are sihouetted against wide open water, behind some metal frames. His silhouette is distinct, he's wearing a backback and looking at a phone. Hers is slightly blurred.
Will loved spending his evenings down by the #docks with her, the views were lovely, watching planes land was cool, they could talk for hours about anything & nothing
So hard to find nowadays
She was a #ghost - died 20 years ago. But he didn't care.

An elabourate 'fingerpost' signpost in front of bushes and a river, points left towards Erith (1.75M), London (24M) and right towards Dartford (4M) and Rochester (25M). It's painted red and patterned. Towards the bottom it says "Sustrans Routes for people" and has a marker for 'The Millenium Commision' On its base is a poem: DOWN A WANDERING PATH I HAVE TRAVELLED, WHERE THE SETTING SUN LIES UPON THE GROUND, THE TRACKS ARE HARD AND DRY SMOOTHENED WITH THE WEATHER'S WEAR, MY MIND DID MOVE WITH THEM THAT HAD BEFORE ME BEEN, TRODDING DOWN THE GROUND A TRACK FOR ME TO FOLLOW, LEAVING MARKS FOR OTHERS A SIGN FOR THEM TO FOLLOW. Birds are silhouetted against a cloudy sky. A large number of smaller birds (probably thrushes) are flying towards a larger falcon or other bird of prey
A male pheasant, brown and red, runs over thin scrubland.
And I've seen such beautiful things on those further reaches of the Thames - often #nature runing wild, flying free, though I also love the remote industrial, scaled up far beyond what I see inland.

The #ThamesPath in flood yesterday at the Source in Trewsbury Mead near Kemble. The spring by the stone was happily burbling away. With more rain forecast over the coming days I'm sure it'll stay this way for a while. Just don't forget your wellies and be careful!

Photo showing a pub on a street corner, with signage naming it the Dukeβs Head. The building has four storeys, with the upper two being painted creamy-white and, the first floor sage green and the ground floor darkly coloured. The sky is overcast and the level of natural light is low, so the illuminations on the building are a welcome sight. The top edge of the photo is fringed with autumn leaves and branches.
