Sloes, Prunus spinosa, hang from the branches of a shrub in a hedge near home.
The #sloes in the hedges around the fields near our house are laden with fruit this year.
I will probably make #sloegin again, although I actually prefer #sloeport.
When you drain the gin from the sloes, keep them. Add red wine and brandy and wait for a while. The result is ‘sloe port’!

This is a photo of sloe fruits in a hedgerow. They are growing in thick bunches among blackthorn and bramble and have a wonderful pale purple bloom.
I think it's a sloe gin kind of a year!

For #WildFlowerHour #fruits, it's that time of year for #hips #haws #sloes and #blackberries all signs of Autumn, although it is still summer (just, for a few more hours, although autumn weather has arrived in NE Hants🌦️). Another interesting fact is that they are all members of the Rosaceae family.

Saturdays afternoon wanders in the Eden Valley, Cumbria. Lots of Sloes (Blackthorn) on the hedges and all begining to change from green to purple. Looks like a good crop for anyone who likes making Sloe Gin
