November Performative chai lattes and scattered snow showers give way to a softening of heart accompanied by strengthened resolve. Head down and get through the winter. Amber weather warning for unsafe spaces. A century of negligence roars through basements, fridge bobs downstream. Wading knee deep, breeched wellingtons, pull branches, leaves, plastic sheets, a tyre from the culvert until meltwater returns to its safer path. Boats rescue beloved dog and panic sets in as realisation hits, there are no roads out today. Knock after door after knock after ashen face heartbreak tale of damage, there are not enough mops in the world to remove the mental stains and so we listen. Crises continue to vye for priority but fighting a century of oppression I choose a moment’s respite, hear a friend sing on TikTok. The frivolity is jarring but what a radical act it is to make art in the face of adversity, and so I write, stitch and forge onwards, counting tables for the craft Fayre.

The finished bank, it will look at bit odd without any vegetation for a while, but it should do the trick!
🌧️ Pleck wetlands had a little accident the other week after #StormBert, but we have freed its drainage pipe from accumulated vegetation and built up its lower bank with clay. This should prevent overflowing in the future. Thank you again to our volunteers for willing to get mucky on this one!
