I’m back to weaving on this belated anniversary tapestry. #weavesky #tapestry #tapestryweaving #25thanniversary #mirrix #mirrixloom #changetheshed
Done…what a fun weave! I practiced sewn, warp wrapped, and weft wrapped vertical slits! ! #weavesky #tapestry #tapestryweaving #changetheshed #tapestrydiscoverybox #weaving #mirrix #mirrixloom
This adventure uses sewn slits and warp interlock…and is rather a fun practice piece! I am going to be sad when the center yarn (Cabana Boy) is all used up. It is a favorite of mine! #weavesky #tapestry #tapestryweaving #changetheshed #tapestrydiscoverybox #weaving #mirrix #mirrixloom
I’m getting this little sampler off the loom so I can jump into the latest Tapestry Discovery Box. #tapestry #changetheshed #tapestrydiscoverybox #weaving #tapestryweaving #slowart #weavesky

I am working on my loom today. Perhaps focusing on this tapestry will lessen the stress knot in my shoulders. #mirrix #mirrixloom #changetheshed #tapestryweaving #tapestry #weavesky #weaving #weave

#Tapestryweaving building up to a Stormy Sky
Tapestry weaving in progress. Using dark blue, metallic gold, and a variegated green. Worked on a pin loom.
Whelp. I can't sleep, so, I'm working on this #pinweaving #tapestryweaving. I'm a novice at tapestry, so it's very slow going. I'm enjoying it!

A watercolour painting of an empty rowboat in blue, brown and orange floating on a lake, against a hazy pink sunset sky. The painting was based on the prompt word drift. A smaller more stylised version of the painting showing the boat’s prow is next to the detailed piece.
A tiny woven tapestry in the colours and shapes of the paintings. The contrast in the yarn colours is too low for many details to emerge but the orange details pop out the most - the blues, browns and pinks have optically merged together in the weave.
An experiment in using a creative prompt to paint, and then using that painting to make a tiny tapestry.

I'm pleased to carry on the Finnish-American rug weaving tradition, but also not afraid to take a slightly different path than my ancestors.

I found this art doodle exercise in a sketchbook I unearthed from a pile of clutter. I’m thinking it might make a cool tapestry weaving project. I’ll get to use my signature black and white pick and pick motif as a bonus. What do you think? #Tapestry #tapestryweaving #weaving #fiberarts
My Rainbow Love tapestry was woven from the back. The end results are quite beautiful, imo! #rainbow #weavesky #tapestryweaving #tapestry #slowart #changetheshed

I think I'm at a point where I'm finally satisfied with this tapestry I've been working on since September. It was picked apart and re-woven so many times I felt like I was Penelope waiting for Odysseus to come home. It's wonky, but done.

Experiment- thinking for ages about making work with found photographs / ephemera and weaving - lots of ideas to work through - the sun shining on this piece / shadows inspired me to take a picture of ‘work in progress’ #Mixedmedia #tapestry #tapestryweaving #textileart #Collage #foundphotography
‘Fields and Village on the Nile’ by Mahrous Abdou shows the river Nile passing across the tapestry, with lush green plants growing on the river banks. People tend to crops, wash clothes in the river, and sit together in the shade of trees. Further away from the river bank the colours shift from lush greens and blues to dry and hot-looking yellows. There are dunes in the distance where people ride camels, and on the far side there’s a village that’s under a hot red sun that’s surrounded by flame-like rays.
A man depicted in the tapestry who is stood among plants next to the Nile, wearing a light tunic, a brown waistcoat over top, and a cap. The man’s shape is simplified, making his head larger and cartoonish. In his hand is a cigarette, that he holds up to his mouth
Another man from the tapestry who is smoking. He’s sat with other men near some crops, and is wearing a light brown tunic and cap.
I stumbled on a #tapestryweaving by accident while I was in Exeter this weekend- ‘Fields and Village on the Nile’ by Mahrous Abdou
Some parts were incredibly detailed (I’d guess it was ~18epi?) and I enjoyed spotting these figures smoking with big cartoony eyes 👀
The tapestry ‘At the length of a season: blood ghost’. Two black silhouetted figures carry a long length of wood above their heads, with a dead buck tied by its ankles to the wood between them. Superimposed over the buck is a faint red silhouette of a person who is also strung up to the wood by their wrists and ankles. It’s an eerie ghost, as if the buck being carried is echoing a past misjustice.
There was some interesting transparency made in ‘At the length of a season: blood ghost’ with sashiko-like stitching between areas of the warp.

The tapestry weaving ‘Prodigal’ shows an abstract landscape with a figure and a pig stood before a far-off horizon that features a burning red sun that’s slipping below the horizon. The black silhouetted figure is poised to strike the pig with an upheld knife, which is equally red hot as the sun. The pig is stood calmly by the figure, unaware of its fate. It’s unclear if the scene is a violent killing about to happen or a ritualistic sacrifice, laden with meaning.
The reverse of ‘Prodigal’. The subdued pinks and blues from the front image are inverted here, so the pig is now blue against a pink landscape. There is no equivalent ‘reverse shadow’ of the black silhouetted figure, nor the sun, as they are superficially woven on the other side.
Forgot to add #weaving #tapestryweaving #textiles
I think he uses double weaving (or more?) to swap between two colours when creating large areas of colour, and then superficially weaves wool to create the figures and more details.
Peep these photos showing the front and back of ‘Prodigal’:
Just thought I’d share some small woven tapestries I’ve been working on… the first 2 are inspired by the Ross of Mull and the second 2 by Namibia. #woventapestry #tapestryweaving #respondingtothelandscape
The start of a woven tapestry. Black night sky with 2 grey clouds.
After a couple of months obsessively weaving mini tapestries on my palm sized loom, I'm returning one of my larger looms. Yay.

A small tapestry sample showing a beige-y grey background with overlapping squares of muted yellow and purple/grey, as well as more saturated squares of yellow. The sample sits on a page in a notebook that has notes about the colours used.
A photo taken from a car passenger seat of a concrete wall lining a bridge. The wall has been graffitied over time, and each time someone has painted over with a different paint. The colours are all muted, but vary from browns, yellows, blues, and purples.
I’ve been playing with a #tapestryweaving idea based on a bridge near South Norwood. The repeat attempts to cover up graffiti have made a patchwork of different coloured squares, which look almost like a mural.
However in my sampler I found that my colours were either too subtle or too saturated 😮💨
Shades of blue weaving on small metal and wood loom. Light colored wood tools at top.
Progress, albeit a little flawed. #tapestryweaving #fiberart #handspunyarn
