Running the Endurance Life Dorset Coast marathon this weekend can be summed up by this sign found on the coastal path - too windy to stand, so muddy you fell over again if you could, and a storm surge that meant a choice of detouring up the cliff or running through the sea. When I attempted the 1,900km "Race Around The Netherlands" a few years ago I carried about a kilo of porridge oats. I never did manage to eat of it.
But then I did manage to poison myself and fail to finish. Needed an ambulance too, you know.
