For #WeaponWednesday here are some Roman knives from the Mithraem site at London, displayed in the museum there (yes, photographed in my recent holiday!). Of course, they may not have all been *used* as weapons, but any shiv in a storm, as they say.

Long before bronze or steel, humans hunted with wood, bone, and stone. Spears like those from Schöningen show we’ve been weaponizing nature for at least 300,000 years.

For this week's #WeaponWednesday we have chosen a German signal grenade launcher from 1916. The Kleine Granatenwerfer also known as ‘Little Preist’ was first used by the Austro-Hungarian army in 1915. It was an infantry mortar used by the central powers during WWI.

For #WeaponWednesday here’s a Lewis Gun section of the 1st Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment, posing in 1915. We are loving their little mascot! Is she a national doll of some sort? Any guesses?

That was a joke.
