#Kindred and #MalibuShores are the two I watched. I really liked Kindred cause I was well familiar with the LARP material (don't ๐!).
Like #WolfLake, Kindred was ahead of its time. Both would've been received much better in the last 15 years. #tvsky #TBT

Bernard's 2025 walkthroughs review.
#WolfLake: 3/10
Werewolves by boomers. The first pilot was on the right track but the second pilot reconfigured the show badly. Things went downhill from there. It's a mess and not even in a wonderful way.

I recommend these curios you haven't yet done (keeping it modern for you as I've gone back as far as 1940s TV & 1930s radio).
No greats but surely a good chat ensues:

Do I recommend?
No this is a failure. I'd like to say it's a proto-version for better copies of thee same show ahead. But no it isn't as it just feels like another Canadian/US genre show that was half formed. Half dog.
#WolfLake TV ep #1.09 "If These Wolves Could Talk" (01-May-02).
Mia Kirshner isn't even in the final ep just her wolf self. She did nothing all season.
Lucas is a full time gaslighter that could only have been written by a boomer. His character is so unwanted.
And so is the show.
It just ends.

Only scene in the ep I liked was Blackstone and John talking in the ambulance at the end.
Lou Diamond Phillips may as well have said "The show been cancelled already so go on and well tell me about the monsters I never met".
Blackstone "Yes buddy we were all werewolves."

The sheriff did well in this ep as a parent for once.
The Ruby-Tyler marriage story is so boring. Why is she being imprisoned in a bedroom with a giant window? They wasted Mia Kirshner.
BTW in last ep who killed the two backdoor guards?

#WolfLake TV ep #1.08 "Legend of Lost Lenore" (24-Apr-02).
An poor attempt to do Poe. John rents a haunted house. It's so unbelievably weak.
Meanwhile Sophia sees Lucas banging the skank. Lucas was also supposed to be the main character but he's just a rat. Why are we expected to care about him?

Here is the actual ep.
Watch out for the lead milfy wolf having public sex and later doing a striptease.
And teeny cutesy wolf gets to snog in a sexy maid's outfit.
"Hey kidz enjoy my ep. I'm off up the Twin Towers. See ya at lunch kiddos".

The politics of the Wolf clans is the only interesting thing in the show. To such an obvious extent every later Wolf and Vampire show will bass entire seasons on how their dynasties interact. But this show realised it way too late it isn't a cop show and what killed it.

The one bit that made me laugh was Blackstone saying he can't find a place for John in teh narrative. Good joke as John the main character has zero business being in the show now and is now an unnecessary side character.
How does any show manage to sideline its main star?

So the quirky stuff is a hatchet job by toxic boomers who think they can be modern. So suddenly Blackstone is now a perv, the perps are incestuous brothers from the sticks, the deputy is now a slut.
Hey this is what want ye kidz want am I rite? Wazzzup!
No thanks Grandpa.

Were this 1991 this show would compete with the likes of "Dark Shadows" or "Forever Knight" but it's 2001 and this show has nothing of the new wave of TV in its DNA. Just boomers trying to guess where it's all at. All the talent on screen can't save this half baked series.
#WolfLake TV ep #1.07 "Leader of the Pack" (17-Apr-02).
The makers are aware that there is this massive discontinuity between the more serious show Leekley designed and the quirky re-design post the pilot. This ep bravely tries to bridge the two but really it can't be done. The show is done.

What's odd with this show is that the characters you think are going to be the main ones who are up front in all the publcity namely Ruby, John and Lucas barely feature in each ep.
Oh Kellie Waymire was briefly in this ep. This must be her last one so?

I can see later werewolf show having similar lore but i can't forgive how poor the storytelling is. What does the church look like from the outside? Is it miles away from civilisation? The show has not conveyed to me that this hills community is in a separate locaton.

Why does Sherman warn John to put Sophia into hiding? He just visits her later anyway.
Can't wolves not hear someone entering the room whilst shagging. Why are they even shagging anyway?
Why did that kid shoot the cop? Who knows/cares?

#WolfLake TV ep #1.06 "Four Feet Under" (10-Apr-02).
God this is indecipherable gibberish.
John investigating a crime scene is ok but I've no idea otherwise why he is in the show. It's all so filmsy and the mystical stuff is piffle.
We have a sudden marriage. Was that a twist or expected I dunno.
#WolfLake Ep 1.05 cont'd.
What is the point of Ruby? They've turned her into a Helena Bonham Carter lookalike as she is the centre of a gothic tragic romance.
Except she isn't as she's barely been in any ep. Hasn't mentioned John. She barely seems conflicted. John & her had zero chemistry anyway.
#WolfLake Ep 1.05 cont'd.
The reverse storyline of the Sheriff wanting his daughter to leave and not wishing her to stay didn't really work as we know nothing about Sophia or her aspirations before now. Ok she's a home bird now we get it.
The forest scenes with actual wolves are working well TBF.
#WolfLake Ep 1.05 cont'd.
So who killed Willard at the end? Well the show was cancelled after this ep so I'm unsure if the final 4 shown much later reveal the killer.
Had it been Miranda I'd love it. It would finally give John a role in the show were he to go bad. But who f'ing cares anyways?
#WolfLake Ep 1.05 cont'd.
As for John he is thoroughly pointless. He gives up on the raped woman after she mentions the wolf. Thinks she's mad. Such a bad choice. Ends up in his own C-plot with some looney who serves no purpose.
Ruby still wants him even though they have had no scenes together.
#WolfLake Ep 1.05 cont'd.
Miranda knew nothing of the wolves? That means she now has zero business in the show. So the character is done. A waste and a shame as Waymire was the best thing in the show.
The whodunnit has one suspect so at least it doesn't try a big reveal as we all knew the outcome.
#WolfLake TV ep #1.05 "Excitable Boy" (24-Oct-01).
Only reason I'm watching this is for Kellie Waymire but seems this her last ep.
A doctor says of Kellie's raped character: "Her blood alcohol is 0.24. Raped is a relative term".
Horrid writing by Toni Graphia. No Dr is saying that. Cheap writing.
#WolfLake TV 1.04 cont'd.
1990s/2000s Canadian TV made for US is a never ending tyre fire. The death throes of a legacy industry repeating the same mistakes. This show isn't the worst but I wish it was like #Prey which owns that title as I could laugh at it. This is in that dreadful no man's land.
