You can hold a writing group in your home around a dining table if attendance is small. Many towns have community spaces like museums, libraries, galleries and back rooms at coffee shops that welcome small writing groups. Ask around and be friendly.

If you can't find a local writing group - START ONE. You can tailor your group toward your preferred genre. Most libraries will let you advertise your group on their bulletin board. The smaller the town, the more open your group should be to all genre.

If you need a critique group then you are better off to aim at a pro writing group as near to you as possible. This means a group with at least one author who is well known. Pros tend to give better critiques particularly in genre so ask around.
