I have been so fortunate to spend the year working with three schools within the Madera Unified School District and this week is my last visit. They are amazing and ready to move forward, but I will miss them all! #atassessment #sblchat @solutiontree.bsky.social

📈 Grading less isn't an unknown. Visit a #Montessori school to see students engaged for the joy of learning, growing every day with no grades. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EDchat #EDtech #SpedChat #SBLchat #ATAssessment #TG2chat

📈 Even the best standards-based scales can't save us from a culture of competition. Reform in classroom assessment comes before grading reform. 🌟 #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EDtech #SpedChat #SBLchat #ATAssessment #TG2chat

A young girl dressed as a superhero with a red cape and blue mask flexes her arms in front of a wall with drawn-on muscles. Large red text reads, "The end game isn’t compliance, it’s self-directed learning." In the bottom right corner, the "lead inclusion." logo is displayed.

💪 Compliance is not the ultimate goal of school. We don't only want students to be able to follow rules, we want them to make informed decisions, use their voice, and SHAPE the rules. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders #Educators #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat #ATAssessment

The more I research educational assessment (learning what learners know), the more I am convinced that assessment IS research. #ATAssessment #HigherEd

@tguskey I seem to recall you arguing that typical grades are accurate to within +- 5-6%. Do you have that published anywhere that I could cite? #ATAssessment

It's an eloquent description and I appreciate the emphasis on assessment being a social practice with the aim of achieving the learning goals *of students*. #ATAssessment

If you reduce the number of gradations of quality, you increase the likelihood of an accurate assessment. #ATAssessment

If a learner is within 5-6% of a higher letter grade, it is your duty to make a judgement call and you have the freedom to recognize their work as such. #ATAssessment

All grades are an inference, or an interpretation of the data, not a true measurement of ‘ability’. #ATAssessment

#PSA for educators in higher Ed and k12…you cannot tell the difference between a 78% and an 81% when it comes to grades. Even the most ‘objective’ grade books are entirely subjective and only approach about +-5-6% accuracy. #ATAssessment

Grading learners on a 100 pt scale does not increase precision. Instead, it increases the chance that a learner's ability will be mis-categorized. There are few tools created by K12 teachers or higher ed faculty that can distinguish any better than +/- 5 or 6% #ATAssessment

I wonder if co-assessment is a framework that could bridge the gap between quantitative, psychometric approaches and qualitative, assessment for learning approaches? #ATAssessment 3/3

the quote is "Quesada, Gómez Ruiz, Gallego Noche, and Cubero- Ibáñez (2019) define co-assessment as a type of participatory assessment in which the teacher and student jointly discuss, negotiate, and assess the student's task or performance." on page 10 #ATAssessment 2/3

Thanks to @ammienoot I'm reading www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/0260293... and I love the shade thrown at the over-reliance on summative assessment in higher ed. #ATAssessment @TansyJtweets
