🔍 Missing work doesn’t mean missing learning—it just means we don’t have the evidence yet. Instead of assuming gaps, let’s focus on how we can gather evidence of learning. #GradingForGrowth

🔍 Gone are the days when the purpose of #assessment was to #grade and rank #students. Assessment is part of the instructional process--#feedback is the priority, not a grade. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders #Teachers #SBLchat #TG2Chat

💡 Until we give students multiple options to show their learning, we are not implementing the spirit of SBG. Without options, the format confounds the variable being measured. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat

📊 Assessment is necessary for good teaching. #Grading is not. Dialoguing with, listening to, and observing #students are often our best #assessment. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat

📈 Our rubrics need to shift from being focused on what's missing to what's next. Learning progressions empower a growth mindset by focusing on what students CAN do. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat #EduSky

💪 Compliance is not the ultimate goal of school. We don't only want students to be able to follow rules, we want them to make informed decisions, use their voice, and SHAPE the rules. #LeadInclusion #EduSky #UDL #EdLeaders #Educators #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat #ATAssessment

Wooden cubes stacked to create a staircase. Each column has an arrow pointing up text reads steps to mastery. Under each of the four arrows is a word: acquisition, fluency, maintenance, transfer,

📚 Steps to mastery of a skill: 1. acquisition (I did it once) 2. fluency (I can do it consistently) 3. maintenance (I can keep doing it) 4. transfer (I can use it in new ways) (Hanson, et al., 1978) and still true. #LeadInclusion #EdLeaders #Teachers #UDL #SBLchat #TG2Chat

A5: I love single point rubrics- adapted from @cultofpedagogy. I also use @Quizizz & @MicrosoftForms a lot for quick assessments. I often give very specific & quick oral feedback to Ss straight after oral presentations. I try to be creative w/ types of feedback.

A4: I allow Ss to choose pieces of work for major formative assessments when they are ready to be measure, within reason! I also use low stakes assessments regularly so Ss are used to getting feedback.

A3: I think formative assessment is more important even than summative & should be reported to Ss & parents so Ss can see how they measure up & plan for improvement.

A2: In assessing we should ignore effort, how it looks (unless it is part of the standard) S behaviour & lateness of a piece of work. I try to look at S achievement of a standard.

A1: Formative assessment is a way for me to see where I need to go next & a way for Ss to see what they need to work on or what they do & don't understand as related to standards. Summative is to show Ss' very best achievement to date. #TG2Chat
