Silicon Valley's liquid canvas Alviso is a small Silicon Valley town, located at the San Francisco Bay in California. I left work before sunset and went to the Alviso Marina County Park to take photos of the colorful salt ponds. Salt ponds range from blue green to red to deep magenta – colored naturally by the microorganisms that thrive as salinity levels increase from evaporation. Three microorganisms in particular, Synechococcus, Halobacteria, and Dunaliella, influence the color of salt ponds.
