Red, elongated emission nebula against dark-grey background sky. The nebula's form reminds of the US state California - hence its name.

The California Nebula is only 1000 ly away and the closest HII region to us. Because it's so near, the nebula appears quite large in the sky. It is likely illuminated by the nearby star ξ Persei

Good clear night here in #Vermont with temps expected to drop to -3°F. Thankful for the glorious moon shining down on the snow-laden meadow.

After 4 years, I've gone back to re-image M81 - Bode's Galaxy. What a difference!

Same telescope, same mount, same camera. Just more experience with image processing in #PixInsight

The total solar eclipse photographed in Indiana, April 8, 2024. This image was taken during totality. The moon completely covers the sun’s disk. Between the 3:00 and 6:00 position, there are sever solar prominences visible.

The image was taken with a Nikon D810 with the 200-500 zoom lens set at 500 mm. f8, 1/1000 sec, ISO 100, 4 stops underexposed.

Finally a clear night, albeit somewhat moonlit. Here's the first colour image from my (new to me) mono camera, which may not make sense now that I read that back to myself. These are Bode's galaxy (M81) and the Cigar Galaxy (M82), with a hint of integrated flux nebula. #space #astronomy #astrophoto

That sunspot cluster from earlier in the week continues to make its way across the solar disk (today Thursday 11AM eastern US time). AA4366. The biggest spot is about five Earth diameters wide.

The big sunspot cluster is making its way across the solar disk. It should remain in view for a few more days.

Ouin, j'ai un nouveau Canon EOS 2000D (d'occasion). À chaque fois que je le pointe vers la lune il s'éteint.

Euh, je précise que je l'ai accroché à mon énorme t

Great cluster of sunspots this morning. This is the AR4366 eruption, including the most intense class (X) of solar flares.

Another bright and crystal-clear day in Vermont.

After more than a week of additional shooting this #astrophoto, I got ~21 hours total after culling (clouds, shake due to wind, autofocus issues…). Much better, but shows the limits of my old Oly E-M5 II; I strapped a Peltier cooler to it but it's no match for modern cooled astrocams noise-wise.

First night of equatorial mount with the scope. This allows for longer imaging sessions.
Yes, that’s a nighttime photo; the moon is lighting up the snow-covered meadow.

Last night did not disappoint. So glad for the era of digital telescopes, because it’s warm in the kitchen while the scope does all the hard work and it’s-4°F outside.
