I had to think about it but if a person is maybe interested in romance I’d recommend this one. It’s an engaging read (the author’s outline must have been INSANE) with rewarding clues and a tender romance to boot. I have not seen the movie or series(?)

Yes, thank you very much, Sam! 💜 I've added so many interesting books to my TBR list I don't think I ever would have found without reading the responses to your prompts. ^^ #Bookvember was great!

Kate DiCamillo 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.' So so confidently, yet simply, written. The fable of the heartless rabbit who learns to love has, like so many of the great 'children's' books, timeless, ageless appeal, accessible to anyone who was ever a child.

No idea. I don't even know how to approach picking from the perspective of a non-reader. What I can say is Jason Pargin's latest book - I'm Starting to Worry About This Black Box of Doom - got me BACK into reading after probably like six years of being unable to finish a single book. #bookvember

#Bookvember Day 30

I have missed answering a bunch of these because I tend to freeze up and forget everything I've ever read when asked (like now!) 😂
But I have really enjoyed reading everyone's answers and have added so many new books to my TBR!

Thanks so much @woodenvelt.bsky.social for hosting!

Prompts for Fantasy Indies November writing game. Day 30 is Marketing tips.

30. Having never marketed before but certainly having found myself marketed to, genuine enthusiasm works wonders. Emphasis on genuine. Especially with something as personal as a novel or other craft, the human behind the product is super important. #Bookvember #writingcommunity #writesky

30. I feel like I'd have to tailor this to the person in question, but I'd probably choose a graphic novel of classic literature. Or the Manga version. Remove the sense of remoteness or the difficulty of the language, and the story becomes approachable. #Bookvember #writingcommunity #writesky

It's all about what the reader actually likes. When I was six, I hated reading because my mom made me read books like Bunnicula and Bugs Bunny Meets the Tasmanian Devil. Then I read A Little Book of Devils and Demons, and I was hooked.

The thing is, the books most likely to convert non-readers are unpredictable. You have to know their personality and why they don't like reading in the first place. And you can't be judgemental at all. You may have to rec something you consider 'unreadable' if it might be fun for them.

I mean, it really depends on the person and the reason they don't like to read. I wouldn't want to pick something too long or intimidating. My own GHOSTS OF MARSHLEY PARK might be a good starting point, or maybe the Raven Boys series. Some Agatha Christie perhaps? 🤔

#Bookvember I'd probably pick A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. Such a good read, with a little bit of everything sprinkled in.

Otherwise, Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle.

Thanks for hosting #Bookvember, Sam! It was a lot of fun 😊❤️

Maybe a graphic novel like Saga or Marjorie Liu's Monstress?

When my cousin was in charge of a bookmobile, she asked that anyone who rented media also rent a book. So if they picked up a boxing movie, she'd direct them to bios about boxers. Encouraging interests helps a great deal.

The #audiobook of Sabriel by Garth Nix.
Read by Tim Curry, it's an utter masterpiece.

That’s a really personal question! Every reader will like something different!
Maybe Id ask why they don’t read and what kinda of stories they DO like (Tv, games, etc) and find books in that genre that sidestep their complaints?
Maybe even audiobooks?

Terry Pratchett can do some good.

For someone interested in getting into reading, I'd first ask what kind of genres they like, and I'd probably have different recs for kids vs adults:

But just in general, I'm thinking A WRINKLE IN TIME. It's got multiple genre elements & is easy to read, but still mind-blowing!

Probably the JJBA manga.

So, convert is a loaded word. 🙃 I'm not banging on people's doors spreading the good word lest their semi-literate souls are damned to library hell or anything. But, if someone were receptive to trying a fantasy book, I would recommend recommend Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett. 🧵

#Bookvember Day 30: Can't think of *one* book to convince someone reading is great. Age? Interests? So much factors into recommendations...

Tricky…but the gun-to-my-head answer is the same one that converted me; 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

That said, I don’t think there’s a 1SFA approach to this. You gotta meet them where they’re at, suss out their interests, and go from there.

Happy #Bookvember! Thanks for putting this on!

#Bookvember 30. "Convert" may be a strong word, but if I realised they had similar tastes to me (maybe through games or films, and by that I mean dark fantasy and lesbians), I might recommend them The Fallen Gods series by S.D. Simper!

Is there a way to do this with one book? I feel like I have to know if they were always a casual reader or the genre they like before I give a suggestion.

Had a bad reading dry spell this year, but I'm hopeful for the new year! Some of these are TBR, some are to be finished (probably need to start over, lol)

(Oh who's that pretty octoprincess? 😊❤️ #quillbert4ever)

Today I bought Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree 📚 I absolutely love it already, and the trilogy is on the top of my TBR list 🌟
Would strong recommend for anyone interested in #cozyfantasy

29. My TBR right now is the reread of Malazan I have been meaning to do for two years. I bought an ebook omnibus to make it easier.

My TBW is Death Reborn, book 1. It was called Dreams in Mosaic, but that title fits book 2 way better now, so I need a new one. #Bookvember #writingcommunity #writesky

OK look, my TBR, physical and digital, is stupid big. I don't want to do a photo of the teetering piles by my bed, and I don't want to list the ebooks (many of which are works by fellow posters here), so instead I will name the most egregious one, that people will read me to filth for >>
