Honda Prelude. No, the power train is not exciting. But this maybe had the best interior and comfiest seats that I tried out. Build quality seemed strong. Hatchback is actually huge and the rear seats fold totally flat. You can fit a lot of stuff in this, so if you just wanna drive a no nonsense cpupe and still ha e room for your stuff, this is it. It is a pretty car overall. Based on some short conversations I had, some old Prelude fans didn't seem to hate it after witnessing it in person.

Alfa Romeo Tonale. New facelift, and this new Speciale model that has the cool three hole wheels (a throwback to a much older wheel design and also I'm guessing to make it similar to the Junior) and a really neat interior color scheme, and some new seats that seem better than the old ones. Tonale also seems to be stanced lower than before and actually seems like a small hatchback now, less a CUV. I think oems are just afraid to use the word hatchback now or something. Can't wait until it depreciates into my price bracket!

Fiat 500e. New colors for 2026. Really fun. I still love sitting in this car. Just wish it had more range for the price. Also the white interior is cool, but you could tell it was dirty from everyone getting in and out. An unfortunate reality of some light colored interiors. Overall I still think these are cool, just impractical for me. They also had a classic 500 on display, which is just sooo tiny. Smaller than these of course, though about the same size as that upcoming Topolino.

Jeep Recon. Lobe the wheels. This is the MOAB version. The Recon is like if you take a Cherokee and give it removable windows and doors to cross it over to a Wrangler. Also ahas a huge moon roof, although it is a fixed roof. I don't think you can replace the Wrangler's true convertible nature, but this seems like a pretty decent middle ground and I'm all for more weird and quirky vehicle types. So keep on the weirdness.

Alright, so a couple actual vehicles that seemed interesting at the Chicago Auto Show. As much fun as it is to make fun of Stellantis quality they are at least interesting to look at. See alt texts.

Custom Suzuki Samurai with six wheel setup and a camper trailer

Another Chicago Auto Show in the books, and the most intriguing thing was probably this six-wheeled custom Suzuki Samurai. And it hauls a camper trailer. Awesome 👌

Back to the Future at the 2026 Chicago Auto Show Listen. We're from Chicago. And, in Chicago, tradition is king. Sure, it might now be called the Willis Tower, but you won't catch us saying anything but Sears. It's Comiskey. It's Field's. We go to J...

We've been going to the #ChicagoAutoShow since childhood, and look forward to it every year. This year brought tons of retro flair, unique Chicago style, crazy new tech, and of course, terrifying rides at Camp Jeep. Come with us and see what we saw:

This Elantra N race car from the '23 Chic Auto Show got me a lot of clicks on YouTube as a thumbnail, even though the video was kinda mid. Cool car though, love Hyundai's performance blue.

With that said, it is really cool. I believe it is only an appearance package with an up trimmed interior. 6-speed manual. However, why hassle with a Toyota dealer when you go to Subaru and buy almost the same car without goofy upcharges (usually) and in a really cool, new purple color? Plus, you can order the BRZ however you want instead of the stupid shit Toyota does regarding orders (or lack thereof).

Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition. Gree with bronze wheels, maybe 200 coming to the US total. Very cool, very rare. Spokesperson tried to stress these as $32k cars and I ribbed them about dealer upcharges. She said they try to reel 'em but it doesn't always work.

Cropped a bit oddly to crop out a kid's face. Love the headlight designs on these. This green color is very special in person, and the GA wheels are really quite unique. The range is about 150 miles on a full charge, and the 500e starts at about $32.5k USD and tops around $36k for these special editions. They're nice, but that's a big price for the range, especially considering how fuel savvy the old gas engine cars were and how the hybrids exist in Europe. Spokesman said they were targeting the "premium city car segment," which is the most uncoveted, un sought after segment I can imagine for the US market. I think the electric Mini Cooper SE sat there for a bit, but that was originally cheaper and nicer, and now I think they get like double the range without a dramatic price change. Fortunately, int he real world, these are being marked down pretty heavily. Cheaper yet used. The Hybrid and Abarth models may come if the demand exists. Unlikely, in other words.

Except for the range, I was very impressed by the feel and build quality of the new Fiat 500e. These Giorgio Armani Editions are quite nice, especially this green version with the matching color interior. Hopefully we also get the hybrid and Abarth versions.

There are two trims for the Stelvio and Giulia in 2025. The base, and the special edition Tributo Italiano. The base is really just a Giulia or Stelvio with all the options to choose from, including the performance oriented Veloce Package. The Tributo adds a slightly fancier interior, but is the same otherwise. Honestly, one trim level with all the customizations makes sense, as there were never a ton of options between trim levels anyway. Both cars are still gorgeous, and I love the new headlight designs, and the colors are fantastic. I still love the sport seats, and the Giulia is still one of the most attractive sedans on the market. I really hope the next Stelvio and Giulia retain the beauty, and don't go for the more striking and polarizing design cues of the Junior.

(THREAD 2/2) Of course, Alfa also brought the facelifted Stelvio and Giulia, both in their Veloce trim, which was a 2024 option. I don't recall what year model these cars are, but as of note there's only two trims for 2025. More in alt text.

I first saw a Tonale in 2022 at Circuit of the Americas during that year's F1 race. It was a European-spec proto model in "Verde Fangio Metallic," which was really just "Montreal Verde" but very slightly different (a color originally on QV models only but now with the QV gone it's on all current Alfa models 'cept the Junior for some reason). The Tonale has continued to intrigue me, and is the basis for one of my most popular YouTube videos. It was great to see a production Tonale up close and get inside and check it all out. I think it's a wonderful design, but I wish it was more hatchback like and height. The matte black finishes look great with the green and the red.

The five-hole wheels on the Tonale are some of the best Alfa has out out. Alfa Romeo, I sincerely believe, makes some of the best and most memorable factory wheels. They almost always have. I love the way the taillights looks layered. The interior feels relatively premium. This day was also the first time I ever saw a Tonale in the wild: there was a red one very similar to this spec parked in McCormick's parking lot. As it happens my mother is interested in this car, and the fast depreciation makes a used model with low miles an attractive choice as long as A) there's an extended warranty and B) it's in green. I've noticed the green ones don't depreciate as badly as the rest. Despite an Alfa saleswoman telling me the green was her least favorite, it in truth seems to be a more coveted color, and there's a premium for it even on the used market.

(THREAD 1/2) Okay let's talk about Chicago Auto Show 2025 Alfa Romeos. Last year Stellantis decided to not show up to Chicago, Milwaukee, and other shows, apparently unconvinced it would be a good move. But now they're back, and brought a production Tonale.

It's small, it's a hatchback, looks like a rally car, has offroad chops, the interior looks awesome, and the colors are fantastic. The angled rear roof drips with '80s Rally Car cool, specially like a Renault or something. And like, Renault and Alpine are making some cool little EV hot hatches too, and Fiat. The hot hatch segment is getting a revival, me thinks. Look at the Alfa Junior Veloce, too. They might all be EVs, but I can get behind them if they're good, and more importantly, fun to drive.

You should subscribe to my YT Channel Veloce Midwest so I can buy one, maybe ;)

Honestly one of my favorite cars at the Chicago Auto Show was the Rivian R3X, a car I wasn't sure was even going into production, but apparently is. This is still more of a prototype, but supposedly it is 99% production adjacent in what's shown.
