My guess is a western conifer-seed #bug. If so, it's #Coreidae.

iPhone pic. I saw it sitting on a tarp.

They're mild-mannered, not inclined to bite.
When the wings are spread they have wasp-like markings and make a buzzing sound (which might be protective mimicry).

Die Amerikanische Kiefernwanze (Leptoglossus occidentalis) ist mit ihrer Länge von ca. 2 cm recht auffällig. Hier seht ihr ein paar Details der interessanten Art, die erst seit 20 Jahren in D vorkommt.

Not part of my main series, but found this to be a good stationary subject. So I could try longer exposures for more detail. Still shot on my vivitar Series 1 70-210 f/3.5 from the 70s adapted to a canon ef mount.

Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis)

From last night’s moth traps, and an interesting bycatch, which also apparently comes to light, a Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis) a possible cross channel migrant, although again apparently established in the UK.

Dorsal view of a reddish brown and tan bug sits on a white background. It has medium length antennae, shiny black wing tips, and pale stripes on the sides of its abdomen. The hind legs are very hefty, with a thick femur and somewhat curved tibia, each with a few spikes underneath.

We have hatchlings! 8 tiny baby Box Bugs (Gonocerus acuteangulatus) have hatched out of their little golden eggs on our Rosa rugosa and are now hanging around looking cute! One egg is still to hatch, they change to a reddish bronze just before hatching. #Heteroptera #Coreidae #bugsky

Extremely close-up macrophotograph of a member of the Coreidae family, also known as a leaf-footed bug or squash bug. The image is sharply focused on the insect’s head and thorax, revealing intricate details of its texture and structure. The coloration is a mottled combination of reddish-brown and gray tones, with small black speckles scattered across the exoskeleton. The surface appears rough and grainy, with tiny bristle-like hairs visible along the edges of the head and thorax.

The compound eye is golden brown and faceted, positioned prominently on the side of the head. Extending forward from beneath the head, the long, needle-like piercing-sucking mouthpart (rostrum) is clearly visible and held slightly apart from the body, offering a clear view of its separation and orientation. This rostrum is used to puncture plant tissues and feed on sap, a key characteristic of Hemipterans. Antennae are long, segmented, and covered in fine hairs, extending out of frame. A dark pin pierces the specimen for mounting, indicating this is a preserved sample, likely for entomological study or display. The background is a smooth, dark gradient that enhances contrast and emphasizes fine surface details of the insect.

A closer look at a #Coreidae showing its piercing mouthparts nicely separated. A great view of the rostrum used for feeding.

The bug’s head is orange with long segmented antennae and a jointed orange proboscis extended to surface of leaf on which it rests. The hemelytra are marked with brilliant green with a bumpy iridescent appearance.

First insect of the year is the beautiful Western Conifer Seed Bug (Leptoglossus occidentalis). Seen strolling around the Lithops that are on a south-facing windowsill for the winter.
