As well as highlighting Library & information relevant conferences #LISconference & hashtags when they’re happening, I’m encouraging people to plan to post from conferences on BlueSky. One that I really hope to see posts & reports from is the Business Librarians Association (BLA) conference #BLA24

At Edinburgh Open Research Conference #EORConference remotely this afternoon, looks like a fantastic programme of talks.

Also, have salted caramel chocolate 😋. A good afternoon awaits!

Wondering whether there are many people who are around on BlueSky who are attending the #iassist2024 conference - IASSIST & CARTO 2024: Navigating the Future of Data, today until Thursday. I have it on my list here #LISconference

I’ve added several library and information conference hashtags to this since last night, and have more to do. Please keep the ideas coming! #LISconference

With (wonderful) hashtags now being here on BlueSky, and seeing posts from #RLUK24 today, I had the idea that we ought to be keeping a record of live library conference posting. So I created a page listing the conference hashtags I know of. Please tell me of any others I should add. #LISconference 📚

Finishing off Friday discussing our upcoming presentation for UKSG with Katie Fraser. We're leaning into the natural comedy act we have, but hopefully not leaning too far!

Have just downloaded the update. It’s so exciting to see all the hashtags I’ve been using over the months appear as hyperlinks #daysofhappiness #JanuaryJoys #FebruaryThoughts #LISconference #ORL #LibrariesRewired23 (and more on an occasional basis).

Heading up to Edinburgh for the UKRI data sharing workshop at #IDCC24 this afternoon.

Not here for the rest of the conference, but if you see my team member Minna Ventsel, say hi! #LISconference

Ah! I had such a great time at #ORL Open Research London today. My best life always involves talking to other people who care about open research and trying to fix the world!

Thanks to all the brilliant speakers. #LISconference

Biased responses, hallucinations, too positive, economic barriers, potential bias to what funders want #LISconference #ORL

Ah, good, now we’re hearing about the negatives. AI being a black box (you don’t know how it works. Not reproducible. Data security and privacy concerns. Data governance. Privacy and security. Language of AI - what prompts to use can be a barrier to adoption. #LISconference #ORL

Hearing about getting a reading list on a topic, seeing news, a comparison. All done using AI. I worry about people doing this without doing their own critical thinking, and being guided in a biased way. (This is an interesting and good presentation) #LISconference #ORL

When we implement AI - who owns the data and who benefits financially? Who owns the infrastructure we become depend on? What is the cost of this automation and what "hidden costs" are associated with this? #LISconference

But I don’t want to get behind the times. Need to understand what’s out there and how it works, for guidance and communication with others. Another issue with time #LISconference #ORL

Not to hop back onto my soapbox, but please always remember that "when the service is free, you are the product". And when it is AI, your data is the product. Think about what is being handed over for whose benefit. #LISconference

I’m happier with not using generative AI, partly because of worrying about the ethics of people’s work being used to train the AI without permission or compensation, but also because of but wanting to miss out on the learning I do through doing it myself. #LISconference #ORL

Easier for Generative AI to get a full picture and summarise if an article is available open access. #ORL #LISconference I understand the benefits of this, but also wonder about this making people less happy for their articles to be published as open access. Available for all, including Chat GPT…

If I had more time I'd really like to start a blog etc. that looked at AI tools and how they could be of use to librarians. But I don't have time...#ORL #LISconference

Increasing number of AI tools, constantly new ones. Only way of getting clear about them is to get your hands dirty and try them out. Difficulty with having time to do for all #ORL #LISconference I’m also feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the ethics of it.

AC says the only way to work out what AI is useful for you is to get your hands dirty - yes! This is the line I've been taking with librarians. #LISconference #ORL
