Basic map of Lanchester Valley Walk from Lanchester to Langley Park.

Circa 1905 my Grandmother would take the train from Lanchester to Durham city to go to school. Appreciating how lucky she was I bet she thanked God and the patron saint of education(?) Yesterday I ran part of the route paying a mental homage to Caballo Blanco and Zatopek.

Remains of the south west corner of Lanchester Roman Fort (Longovicium) in County Durham. The fort was originally built in around AD150 by the 20th Legion, and served as part of a chain of defensive forts along Dere Street 📸 My own #RomanFortThursday #RomanBritain #Lanchester
