We were very lucky with #MaeveInquest GP, Dr Lucy Shenton.
Her experience, as a GP working under NHS contract, led her to leave the profession, traumatised. Traumatised by how colleagues, including Dr David Strain, treated her as well as us.
We were mentally prepared. She had not been.
ME is not chronic fatigue.

I think what it shows is how our national institutions are failing #pwME - as demonstrated by the PFD report following #MaeveInquest in 2024.
Nothing has changed since the PFD, afaik, but reinforcement of systemic failings described/quoted in government led Final Delivery Plan - and Justice4ME.uk

The most alarming aspect of the clinical knowledge summary published by NICE (May 2025) in response to #MaeveInquest (ended Oct 2024) is its perfect failure comprehend how to manage #PEM. This was the ignorance that killed Maeve.

I'm sorry it's SO vexing.
Dealing with DWP under Atos plus relocating back to Devon from the SW 'NHS CFS centre of NICE excellence' in Bristol while I was working full time is how #MaeveInquest went from severe to very severe. In mould infested Devon she never recovered the baseline she'd had prior.
Visited for 3 minutes today. A NHS London hospital doing everything it can. The contrast with how it was before #MaeveInquest made me weep. Staff are protecting Savannah from visitors, without intruding on her autonomy. Very high bar. Strain could learn much from them. @ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social

Maeve was proud of her Irish heritage; loved speaking with academics at Trinity about taking Russian & Hebrew but already too unwell by then to pursue an offer.
#pwME NHS module 3 is everything I feared it would be for very severe ME. Strain is not fit to author a #ME training modules. He presided over #MaeveInquest premature death, & almost killed another very severe ME px less than a year later. Why was he appointed to replace Dr Muirhead?

The inquest into how Maeve died from medical neglect of #ME/cfs in 2021 found in 2024 there are no Consultant doctors for ME anywhere in the UK. She became unable to wash her own hair; later unable to chew.

When I read the evidence disclosed to #MaeveInquest it was clear professionals were not talking to each other about what #ME is and the only risks being assessed were not based on knowledge* but on fear. Not fear for Maeve's life, but fear of disciplinary proceedings if hospital staff diverged from

This was how NHS Devon learned enough to produce the first ever guidance on hospital admission/discharge for ME - but only because #MaeveInquest allowed them to. NHS England refused to commission what NHS Devon needs to deliver. NHS England was abolished soon after. @ashleydaltonmp.bsky.social
