A tile showing the important dates for the International Booker Prize. The background is blue with all the text in white.
I’ve started my International Booker Prize @thebookerprizes.com reading with Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-zi (tr. Lin King) and I’m loving it so far.
If the whole list is like this I don’t envy the judges.
It also will tick Taiwan off on my #ReadTheWorld project!

Congratulations! Who translated it into Spanish? It's great that you credit your cover artist, I hope you can also #NameTheTranslator.

Danke, Imke.
Won a #NameTheTranslator plea today, that ended up affecting other translators positively.
Pleasantly surprised, and may the wave continue. #xl8

A copy of Our Colours by Gengoroh Tagame. The book cover is white with the title and author’s name in blue and red colours with the colour alternating with each letter. There is grey text with “Eisner award-winning author of My Brother’s Husband” followed by red text at the bottom with “Translated by Anne Ishii”. In the middle is a drawing of a boy and a blue circle with an older man’s face on the left and a red circle with a girl’s face on the right.
I want to read more manga this year, so I picked up some from the library and starting off with Our Colours by Gengoroh Tagame (translated by Anne Ishii).
I enjoyed reading this and need to find more LGBT manga like it.
Also love that #NameTheTranslator is right on the front cover!
Morning & Happy Year of Reading to all!
This week I'll finish Hussain's Muslim Europe & start Clare's We Came By Sea first non fiction.
In fiction I'm reading Backman's Bear Town (Tr. Smith) & will start Zamir's A Girl Called Eel (Tr. Higgins).
Happy Reading!

Now its even more important that publishers #NameTheTranslator on book covers. If there's no human credited with the translation, readers will now have to assume its slop.
Those are hashtags in use but I guess without the spacer underscore?

#namethetranslator #xl8
Con traducción de @carlosmayor.bsky.social !

I would #NameTheTranslator but it's only listed as a company rather than an individual: Dréimire Teo
Into the Sun by C.F. Ramuz. This was a purchase request from me and I saw it recommended here on Bluesky. Cli-fi from over 100 years ago, just translated (so eligible for awards!).
Again #NameTheTranslator: Olivia Baes and Emma Ramadan. (Again New Directions not putting them on the cover.)

In a strange feat of synchronicity my non fiction read & my fiction cover pretty much the same time frame and issues…

I read On The Calculation of Volume (Book 1) by Solvej Balle (tr. Barbara J. Haveland) yesterday & boy did thar give me some weird dreams.
When a book penetrates my brain in such a way I'm totally in awe of the author & translator.
📚💙 #BookSky #NameTheTranslator but sadly no #TranslatorOnTheCover
A photo of white bookshelves, partially of one with just five shelves (but each illuminated) and then in the center a larger bookcase with seven shelves, which is organized not by author but by translator, whose names are on the edges of the shelves. On the right is a white column with some artwork and a large exuberant broad-leaved green potted plant.
¡QUÉ MARAVILLA!

Yes! This is one reason we started the #WorldKidLitMonth campaign - too often children's publishers fail to #namethetranslator /source language. We think kids deserve more! How cool for a child to pick up a book, realise it's translated from their home/heritage language, seek out that edition too...
