The Robert O. Norris bridge is over 2-miles long and connects Virginia's Northern Neck an Middle Peninsula regions. Specifically Lancaster and Middlesex counties.
Built in 1957, there was a toll on the bridge for many years. It served to isolate the Northern Neck from newcomers and economic expansion. Many longtime residents will say that "back in the day" they sometimes paid a late night toll with a cold beer to the bridge attendant.
The toll is no longer in place. Thus the "Been-Heres" (born and raised in the area) are no longer "protected" from the "Come-Heres" (everyone else). But it's all good. Everyone gets along. It's a beautiful area. A pleasant little paradise.
By the way, I'm a "Come-Here" for going on 30 years. The differentiation is more of a joke than a prejudice. Or, at least that's been my experience.
