Winter can seem so grey, with little colour to alleviate the gloom. Even in January, though, there can be warmth in the little colour still tenaciously holding on in the woodlands.

When is the best time to plant a tree? 30 years ago. When is the 2nd best time? Today #northernredoak Do not have room for an oak tree? Neither do i. once the base gets to be 4 inches diameter, I will slice it and it turn it into a bush. Oak bushes benefit pollinators as well as oak trees do.

Red oak acorns take 2 growing seasons to mature on the tree then they drop in the fall but don’t germinate ‘til the following spring. Looks like this is shaping up to be a good year for red oak regeneration!! #oak #northernredoak #valleyfalls #treesarecool
