Quite a change in 12 months.
Me today and me a year ago on the final day of the #OneMillionStepChallenge
I was exercising, but eating better this year has made a difference and changing how I exercise too. Plus volunteering has helped me feel better mentally.

It’s the final day of the #OneMillionStepChallenge for Diabetes UK.
Running this evening with the Parkside Panthers, so I’ll have a gentle walk this morning and then I’ll be doing drills later on.
John O’Groats is in sight!

I’m planning to go running in the park this morning and do some hill training! Barrow is in a little bit of uproar with the King’s visit, so I’m staying clear of the town centre which has multiple road closures affecting my usual walking routes.
It’s the start of my last full week for the #OneMillionStepChallenge #DiabetesUK
I’m still on track for reaching my target of 1.7 million steps by September 30th.
If you’d like to sponsor me as I push on to 1.7 million steps, here’s the link:

I’ll cross the 1.5 million steps line today at ParkRun in Barrow. It’s looking a bit wet so I’m not taking my phone, I need a pair of those shorts with a weather proof pocket. Fundraising has stalled, but I’m hoping I’ll unlock some donations when I cross the finish line at the end of the month. Have a great day everyone!

Smashed my steps target today with a combo of litter picking this morning and a walk this evening. It was a bit rainy, but I still enjoyed pounding out some steps for my #OneMillionStepChallenge ParkRun tomorrow! 🙈

I’ve only got two and a half weeks left on my #OneMillionStepChallenge and my fundraiser T-shirt has finally appeared. I’m now over the 1.4 million steps line, so I’ve only got 300,000 left to reach my goal. Well I survived! 5km around Barrow and I set some new personal running records too. It stayed dry as well! #OneMillionStepChallenge for Diabetes UK. Really proud of myself to do another 5km and this time running outside the relative safety of the park. #ParkRun #NotParkRun

At first glance I don’t seem to have run very far this evening; however I did run almost 3km. What I was actually doing was doing sprint intervals with a group of runners! I won’t claim to be in a ‘club’, but it was good fun and I’m going back on Thursday for a ‘run-run’. You can see where the blue is all of us doing warm-ups and then walking back; and the red is me running a lot faster (for me anyway). Thoughts and prayers appreciated! 🤣 #OneMillionStepChallenge

Good mix of walking and running today, decent total of steps and got a ‘podium award’ for my steps with Garmin plus a PB for distance run. #OneMillionStepChallenge for Diabetes UK.

Got a bit wet towards the end there, but it was a good test of my new Merrells which did a great job and my new Berghaus anorak which was not quite so good. My Adidas trackie bottoms (not waterproof) actually did a great job of keeping my legs dry and warm. So they were a great buy! #EveryStepCounts for Diabetes UK. #OneMillionStepChallenge

I’m off to Carlisle today to finish off my Walk Leader training. Crossed the 1.2M steps line yesterday, so only 500,000 to go for my #OneMillionStepChallenge

Christened my new Merrells with a walk in to town for a haircut followed by a walk along my usual circuit. They seem pretty good, and they should do a good job over the autumn and in to winter.

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated and supported me, one more month to go for me to reach 1.7 million steps.

A little wet today, not as bad as the weather forecast predicted but still some intense bursts of rain. But that step count still needed maintaining for my #OneMillionStepChallenge so I headed out anyway! Hit my target for the day and felt all the better for getting out. Have a good one lovely people.

Why do one run when you can do two! I did the first run because it was part of a new training plan on my Garmin. Then I walked for a little bit and did a second run. So I’m not exactly up to marathon pace yet! I am beginning to enjoy it. #OneMillionStepChallenge for #DiabetesUK
My Benchmark Run for the start of my training programme. I’m guessing the Garmin looks at well I did (or how poorly) and then adjusts itself accordingly.
My ‘proper run’ after I did my initial Benchmark Run.
And I do like how Garmin has lots of little things you can earn as rewards. It’s not real of course, but it still feels good when it pops up on your watch after the run to say you’ve just run your fastest kilometre or mile.

Congratulations, you've done it, Ian!
You've reached the million mark. That's like walking 19 marathons. What a monumental achievement. You deserve a cup of tea, a chance to marvel at your new badge and a moment to reflect on this amazing journey.

Today’s walk for the #OneMillionStepChallenge
Started off cool and then it warmed up quite a bit by the end.

I’ve had to keep myself motivated every single day, yes I feel healthier for doing it and I’ve lost lots of weight but there are days I’d happily stay under my duvet!

Distance wise I’ve walked the equivalent of Land’s End to the Scottish Borders in my #OneMillionStepChallenge or to put it another way I’ve completed 60% of the total distance I’m aiming to walk.

Update on my progress with the #OneMillionStepChallenge for Diabetes UK. I’ve now walked over 900,000 steps which is the equivalent of walking from Cardiff to Aberdeen. Or to put it another way, I’m now past Kendal and approaching Hackthorpe in Cumbria. So I’m still on track to reach my target of 1.7 million steps by 30th September. (Lands End to John O’Groats).
