Hopefully not falling back to the #SnowballEarth of 700 to 650mya or worse the #MethaneEarth (I call that Planet Fracked) prior to #cyanobacteria.

Assuming that #nuclearwinter isn't full Snowball effect, it could be like #PETM (worse) or asteroid 66mya (only ~10 years cold) & leave some small rat.

Loss of vegetation functions during the Paleocene–Eocene Thermal Maximum - Nature Communications Combining fossil records and vegetation modelling, this study shows that global warming during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum 56 million years ago exceeded the adaptation capacity of vegetation,...

The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) is one of the closest analogues for modern global warming. A new study of plants response through migration and evolution sheds light on future adaptation and carbon cycling.

Ancient Ocean Shift Preceded PETM by 200,000 Years, Study Finds

University of Bremen researchers found a Southern Ocean ecosystem shift 200,000 years before the PETM (~56 million years ago) in sediment cores from the Campbell Plateau. Read more: getnews.me/ancient-ocean-shift-prec... #southernocean #petm

Time to grow up: the PETM climatic event favoured metamorphosing salamanders (Urodela, Salamandridae) | Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences Currently, little is known about the early evolution and geographical origin of Salamandridae, the most species-rich family of Palearctic salamanders. The description of new fossil material from the e...

Our study on the role of the #PETM on the early evolutionary success of #salamandrids is out! Delighted to be part of this great project led by Loredana Macaluso, with A.Villa, @grumpydrfabre.bsky.social & B.Mennecart #salamanders #climatechanges 🌡☀️⌛️

An ancient warming event may have lasted longer than we thought Fifty-six million years ago, during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), global temperatures rose by more than 5°C over 100,000 or more years. Between 3,000 and 20,000 petagrams of carbon were released into the atmosphere during this time, severely disrupting ecosystems and ocean life globally and creating a prolonged hothouse state.

🤯 56M years ago, Earth rapidly warmed 5°C! Massive carbon release triggered a “hothouse” & reshaped life. A glimpse into our planet’s wild past! 🌍 #PETM

Lithium isotope evidence for enhanced weathering and erosion during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum Silicate weathering and physical erosion markedly increased during the rapid warming of the PETM, allowing climatic recovery.

It took the climate 20,000 - 50,000 years to stabilize after the #PETM rise in global temperatures of 5 - 8 degrees Celsius 56 million years ago. #ClimateChange #environment #stewardship www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

World’s 1.5C climate target ‘deader than a doornail’, experts say Scientists say goal to keep world’s temperature rise below 1.5C is not going to happen despite talks at Cop29 in Baku

+1.5°C is not the end. We are currently on track for +3°C by 2100 and #PETM levels of warming (~+5°C) under some weak emissions sceanrios by 2500. We need to act faster to curb the amount of warming projected for our current Anthropogenic "hyperthermal" 🌡️📈
