Tiny grains of cosmic dust could be key to sparking life in space. Prof Martin McCoustra has shown dust helps simple molecules form life’s building blocks even at -190°C.

In that quiet corner of the #cosmos, ✨ are still learning how 2 be born — hidden in clouds of gas & dust that breathe slow.
They look like mountains, yet they move; they let the light thru.
Not stone — just interstellar dreams turning into 🔥

Pillars of Creation The Pillars of Creation are iconic towering structures of interstellar gas and dust within the Eagle Nebula, actively serving as stellar nurseries where new stars are being born.

The #PillarsOfCreation are towering columns of cool interstellar gas and dust within the #Eagle #Nebula, located about 7,000 light-years from Earth.

They are an iconic star-forming region, where dense pockets of material are collapsing to create new stars.

✨ Eagle Nebula – The Pillars of Creation in Gold & Turquoise

Here we see one of the most iconic structures in the cosmos – the Pillars of Creation, embedded in the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16) in the constellation Serpens. These gigantic gas and dust formations are star-forming regions – enormous pillars shaped by the light of young stars.
What we see here happened around 7,000 years ago. And perhaps what we consider to be ‘creation’ is long gone.

Taken with the remote telescope of the Vienna Working Group for Astronomy at the legendary Hakos Astrofarm in Namibia – it was my tenth session, and a very special one. Here I can see most clearly the difference between my own many photographs of this nebula taken from my city balcony – Namibia's sky is simply hard to beat 🙂

This gold-turquoise edition was created with a modified SHO colour scheme – it shows the ionised gases in a new light. I am particularly impressed by the close-up, in which the fine structures of the pillars stand out clearly from each other. I didn't think I could bring out so many details at this focal length in the crop! Here are some more lights for more depth, and... Well, it's not going anywhere 🙂

An infrared image of a star-forming region within W5 (IC 1848), showing towering, dusty pillars against a glowing cosmic background. The pillars appear as dense, reddish-brown structures illuminated by surrounding younger stars. These pillars are slowly eroding under the influence of stellar winds and radiation. The background glows in shades of yellow, orange, and blue, highlighting the energetic activity within this part of the nebula. The scene captures a region where new stars are actively forming.

For fun I processed the H-alpha data on my Eagle Nebula. It's only an hour so far but it already looks good. Will definitely get several more hours before it's done. I cropped in on the Pillars of Creation to see their detail.

Had some time to kill before WR134 comes up so trained the scope on the Eagle Nebula. Never imaged it before. The new scope is amazing with the detail it brings with shorter exposures.
