Hoy poca leche creativa (yo, la peque le ha cogido el gusto a diseñar cursores retro 😝) Me he dedicado a programar un puntero que señale directamente a la posición del archivo de textos que guarda la respuesta a cada comando, descripción, interacción, etc... Aburrido pero práctico.

i'm making a #QBasic game using mode 13h, 320x200 8bpp. i'm using VGA line doubling to make it 320x100 then horizontally doubling each pixel for 160x100
i use a palette with 3 bits red/green and 2 blue, and "subpixel dither" in between colors. here's a thread of images showing what that's like

one thing i love about #QBasic is that periods are allowed in variable/function names so the following is totally legal:
CONST PUT.PSET = 0
CONST PUT.OP = 1

Wrote some font rendering code for vanilla VGA mode 13h.
Found an old Sound Blaster MIDI driver (SBMIDI), same used by #QBASIC developers in the late 90s, hooked it into my #x86-16 #C code and works fine.
Time to write a basic window UI thingy.

Went and ported Nibbles to #PowerShell back in 2020.
Ported Turtle to PowerShell earlier this year.
Want people to learn tech?
Give them a terminal that can do fun things.
Then let them play.
And the hardware will stay the same for a while, so optmizing for it makes sense. Instead of #qbasic or AMOS we now have #love2d with ZeroBaneStudio, for #allegro we have #raylib and deluxe paint now became aseprite/libresprite, etc. Plus it can run your favorite retro emulator/fantasy console.

I just finished restoring a 1980s AD&D character generator handwritten in BASIC. It now runs in modern QB64, uses IEEE citations, and generates legal characters with psionics, thief skills, and spellbooks.
It started as a transcription. Now? Much more.
