I was told when I left my training post & became an SAS Dr that I was "choosing a career dead end" & that "I'd never achieve my potential" if I didn't become a consultant. This weekend, both docs on our 3 person HEMS team were SAS Drs. If this is a career dead end, I can live with it! #sasbychoice

SAS doctors have existed almost as long as the NHS.
There are lots of reasons why someone might choose or find themselves outside of a rotational training programme.
We aren't all the same, and nor do our careers have to be.

Careers can change over time.
Every doctor wants a satisfying and viable career, but not every doctor wants to be a consultant.
Personally...a SAS role has enabled me to return to medicine following a long career break.
It suits me really well.
