The communication of #slowstreets, their routes and visual cues seems to say “we’re here for the community”… at least to a rider from out of town
Had an opportunity to cycle some #slowstreets on a recent trip to San Francisco - providing calmer travel corridors through urban neighbourhoods. Seemed to work.

@washingtonpost's take on Oakland #SlowStreets is wrong. The new proposal is more than 2X the mileage, aligned w the 5-year paving plan, & adds physical traffic calming, street signs/markings, & other features OG Slow Streets never had. Not "toned down"....

Oakland's next meeting of the bike/walk commission's infrastructure committee is this Thursday 3:30-5:30pm, where we'll be digging in on planning for the first few, new #SlowStreets implementations alongside this year's paving projects. Public participation is welcome!

This may not be the last we see of Oakland’s #SlowStreets, but it’s frustrating that this iteration is ending so abruptly. Pre-pandemic I remember seeing families biking on the sidewalk here, despite the traffic calming investments. I fear that’s what we’ll return to.
