White flower with yellow center above a jagged lobed green leaf. Growing in the woods.
Another bloodroot flower and leaf in a sunbeam in the woods.
Each Bloodroot plant has one flower and one unique leaf. The leaf is wrapped around the bud when they emerge and then they both open. The flowers last only a day or two, but the leaves keep growing for weeks along with the seedpod. #Wildflowers

Each trout lily plant has one flower and two leaves, so this is three plants growing very close together. They can form large colonies in the right conditions, and some colonies are hundreds of years old. #wildflowers

北海道では見たことがなかったセツブンソウ。フクジュソウと並んで最も早い時期に咲く早春の草花。
I never saw winter aconite (Eranthis pinnatifida Maxim.) in Hokkaido. It’s a tiny wildflower that blooms in the earliest days of early spring, alongside Adonis flowers.🌼

The paths were wet from spring rains when I took these pictures. Rue Anemone (Thalictrum thalictroides) is named for its dual resemblance to meadow-rues and anemones (the plants in the buttercup family, not the squishy sea invertebrates).

Photograph of a group of Pink Lady Slippers or Moccasin Flower (Cypridedium Acaule). They belong to the orchid family and have become somewhat hard to find due to their symbiosis with a particular fungus, their slow growth rate and unique propagation ecology.
