A stained glass window in Chichester cathedral colours of red blue green
Every time I’m in #Chichester I go to see the #MarcChagall window in the cathedral. The colours are stunning and glow intensely, even on a grey day.
I love that, although he was a Russian Jew, he still wanted to create a window for a Christian church.

Our photograph shows the upper section of a large brick church viewed from below, so the structure rises strongly into the frame against a clear, deep blue sky. The perspective makes the building feel tall and solid, with clean lines and strong geometry. The wall is built from small reddish-brown bricks laid in neat rows. Near the top of the building, the roofline forms a triangular gable. Along the lower edge of this triangle runs a decorative pattern made from pale stone and curved brick shapes. These shapes form a repeating scalloped pattern, like a row of gentle arches cut into the brickwork, adding texture and rhythm to the otherwise flat wall. Beneath this decorative section is a row of five tall, arched windows set into light-coloured stone frames. These are stained glass windows, and they are the most colourful part of the scene. Each window has a rounded top and is divided by thin metal bars into many small geometric panes. The glass pieces vary in colour, with shades of green, blue, amber, and clear glass catching the sunlight. In the upper portion of each stained glass window there are small pictorial panels. These panels appear to contain simple symbolic images, religious and ceremonial symbols set against coloured backgrounds. Around these images, the stained glass forms fan like patterns radiating from the top arches, creating a delicate mosaic effect. Sunlight shines through the glass, making the colours glow softly. The lower sections of the windows reflect hints of greenery and light from outside, suggesting trees or plants nearby. At the very bottom right corner of the image, the slanted edge of another roof cuts diagonally into the frame, partially blocking the lowest part of the windows. Overall, the picture feels calm and architectural, with strong brick textures contrasted by the luminous, intricate beauty of the stained glass. Finally, our picture is finished with a simple white border frame.
