Hey #bikesky, #goodnews esp. for #bikecommuting in #Boulder #Colorado! The City - very #carbrained but improving on #cycling - approved a #roaddiet for a shitty 4-lane #stroad (w/ non-legal 'bike lane' paint). Soon to be a 2-lane + #bikelane + #transit road. Major improvement so desperately needed!
This #stroad passes through areas of housing and business centers. Lots of people are entering and exiting this stroad. Speed limit is marked at 50 mph and largely ignored. People walk and bike to the housing and business along this stroad, and it's not safe for them or those driving. 2/x

The new #pedestrian bridge in Clearwater is so utterly performative and effectively useless. It's basically a half mile from any intersection and connects two business/government plazas across a 6 lane (and expanding...?) #stroad. No one is walking here willingly.

I just encountered the most extreme version of a #stroad I’ve ever seen, really more of a #streeway: Hwy 71 / Bastrop Hwy near Austin Airport.
It looks and feels like a limited access freeway with 65 mph speed limit… and it has driveways and surface streets with stop signs directly accessing it!
The city is more accessible on foot, when it is planned to a human scale. I took Ottawa's Carlingwood shopping centre as an example, but these urban spaces exist everywhere in Canada.
