Norse mythology says the tree saved the life of Thor by rescuing him with its branches from a fast flowing river. Rowan was also the prescribed wood for runes.

In British folklore it is a tree that protects against witchcraft and enchantment. Each berry has a 5 pointed star or pentagram opposite its stalk, an ancient protective symbol.

Druids reportedly used Rowan to make wands. Today some people tie red threads around Rowan branches to enhance their protective power.

Salix of some sort? I think I found the parent tree using Google Maps street view. I will have to go take shots of that some time soon.

Daytime wide suburban street under a low silvery white clouds billowing into lacunae of blue sky framing a strikingly beautiful, tall slender tree with yellow foliage shading too ochre, almost to amber, set on a broad pavement with a tarmacced verge

Wood End Lane, Northolt today. I don't know what that beautiful tree is, with its leaves changing to that beautiful yellow colour, as they do at this time every year. The leaves are like rowan tree leaves. #TreeIdentification #Photo

Finally, some reprieve from the heat! This is the time of year that #LondonPlanes sometimes shed old bark aggressively. Large pieces or lots of of bark on the ground can look scary but it is normal for London Planes. See if you can spot any as you enjoy the canopy this weekend! #treeidentification

Does this look like goat willow?

It's the trunk of a willow I had to cut down, but the willow (a Salix 'Kilmarnock') was grafted to a different tree (to keep it 'dwarf' in size). And I think the main trunk is goat willow?

Not my usual content but anyone know what this tree is ? It’s got little buds on it and when you pop em open they’re kinda fuzzy. It’s in my garden of my house I’ve just moved in to so if anyone has any idea do let me know ! #whatisthistree #treeidentification

Time for another easy winter #treeidentification

The American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) is unmistakeable in the midwest, especially when mature. Their smooth, gray bark contrasts strongly with their oak relatives that they're often found with, and nothing else their size is quite like them.

Another #treeidentification post! Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) is another tree that morels are known to associate with, and they are a very easy winter ID - just look for their extremely dark, flakey bark. Bacterial galls are common on this species.

If you're still not sure, look at the canopy. The remnants of the flowers/seedpods will stick around all winter, so if you can spot the old flowers wayyyy up in the canopy, that'll confirm your ID.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck out their with your IDs!

Many brown oak leaves spread out on the ground.

Many brown oak leaves spread out on the ground.

Any oak tree specialists out there? Would like to know what kind of oak tree shed these leaves. They're about 7-8 inches long. Thx!
