Reposting a #VBAM survey request for a student on the Discord:

Hi everyone, I have a friend looking to make a VBAM tool for one of their college courses. They asked me to post a survey to gather a bit more information. If you could answer the survey that would be helpful. forms.gle/XR7qxiBLcLqy...

Here's a comparison shot of the Human Union ships as originally printed, versus the 25% larger versions that I printed as test pieces for possible release as #VBAM miniatures. You can see where the original sizes are meant to allow the ships to fit more reasonably into available hex space.

The test prints for the new #VBAM Carrier Wars supplement arrived! Everything looks pretty good on a first pass. The spine text on the perfectbound version maybe a little big, but it's not a big deal. Will have to integrate the errata/typo fixes from the fans and get things ready to fulfill orders!

tyrellohr Repository of 3D printable designs shared by tyrellohr, designer from Cults, the 3D printing platform.

I've uploaded some more #3dmodels of space ships and fighters for #3dprinting to my #Cults3D page for purchase: cults3d.com/en/users/tyr... - a mix of models from or inspired by #StarTrek #Babylon5 #WingCommander #VictoryByAnyMeans #VBAM.

My current goal is to go in and model all of the Kilrathi and Confed ships from #WingCommanderArmada and release them over the course of the next two Patreon releases, mixed in with some other #StarTrek and #Babylon5 units. There will also be some #VBAM units slipping in there, as I work on more art

After Carrier Wars is released, the next #VBAM release will be Uncharted Territories, which is waiting on system descriptions and scenarios, of which I have about half the system descriptions done, and will be digging up some background text from 25+ years ago to complete the scenarios.

Here's the front and back cover mock ups for the #VBAM Carrier Wars expansion. Shows how the artwork will wrap around between the front and back covers, and what the back cover text will say.

I left negative space on the back for the text, so it wouldn't overlap and not need a background.

Finishing up the cover art for the #CarrierWars supplement for #VictoryByAnyMeans #VBAM. I'm hoping to have the book ready for release by the end of the month, pending any last minute changes for updates. I'll let everyone know when it's available for sale.

I gave the rear of the ship a big hangar deck because I didn't know what else to do with it, and since I'll be using the ship mainly as a 3d printed game piece, I figured it could be interesting to turn this into a slow carrier when I convert it into #Starmada and #VBAM.

And here's the colorized Kentari carrier on its own. The #VBAM art style is very basic and high contrast, largely because that's an art style I can easily create using simple layer colors in Rhinoceros. Have to keep the art pipeline streamlined in order to get the content out the door!

Here's some additional shots of the Mollymawk on its own. From start to finish, this model took probably about 2 or 2.5 hours. I tend to work quickly, with an eye primarily towards 3d printing and to be able to render out art that is passable for the #VBAM books.

I was working on some art for the upcoming CARRIER WARS #VBAM book today. Some pretty basic chapter heading art, this time of an Altairian Mollymawk carrier. The 3d model was done in Rhinoceros 8, while the planet and star were created with the old Cosmic Pack 3 PS plugins in Photoshop CS4.

I got a picture in my head of what my Rochester-class battlecruiser might look like, so I spent a few hours tonight starting a #3dmodel of that. It needs more detailing to make it look better, but it's a start!

It's really enjoyable to play #VBAM campaigns and then bring the ships to life.

Another quick render for some internal chapter art for the new #VBAM core rules. A pair of Kili Protector heavy cruisers flying past a planet with two suns and a moon in the distance.

The art isn't going to blow anyone away, but it at least helps set the tone for the setting.

The Harbingers are an Ancient level threat in #VBAM, which means the combat factors of their vessels are twice that of the starting forces of any of the player empires. This makes them extraordinarily deadly, especially if encountered early in a campaign.

"They are the harbingers of our destruction!"

Meet the Harbingers, a machine intelligence of self-replicating "berserkers" from the #VBAM Harbinger Wars campaign setting.

As with much of the pastiche of the setting, the inspiration for the Harbingers is pretty clear, but with a slight design twist

Here's some pictures of some #3dprint #VBAM Human ships and fighters I painted this weekend. My hope is to get them to the table tomorrow and give them their first combat against another faction. I still need to paint the Yuletarri or Jain ships, so they may deploy unpainted for that playtest battle

Work continues on the #VBAM fleet, getting artwork done for the VBAM3 book. Here are some WIP pics of the Kili Protector CA. I ended up finishing it up later in the afternoon, but this is a shot of what it looked like about 75% of the way through the build.

More test prints of some #Babylon5 and #VBAM ships. The Shadow Cruiser looks to have turned out fine (printed in two sizes, so I could figure out which works best). The revised White Star also looks to be a winner with the bulkier pointy bits. Also did a basic White Star liner on a whim.

I've also started converting some of the new ships into #Starmada so I can start playtesting them and get them prepared for a future #VBAM #Starmada Edition book release. This has meant roughing out the ships and seeing if the number and type of weapons on the ship cards matches the models.

Victory by Any Means Logo for the Third Edition book

Victory by Any Means Logo for the Third Edition book

Victory by Any Means #VBAM is a sci-fi strategy game that can be best described as a combination of Starfire and Federation & Empire. It was first released in 2004, and I'm currently working on a Third Edition of the game that I had hoped would have been done by now, but it's definitely coming along

I wanted to start a thread to talk a little bit more about my iterative approach to storytelling, and how I have used #VBAM campaigns to help build space opera narratives over the years for near-future settings focused on Human exploration and discovery.

I rediscovered the history for this ship earlier this year when I was looking back over some old #VBAM #Starmada campaign diaries and I decided it was time to go back and make #3dmodels of them to print out and have versions of them in the future, in case I ever wanted to play with them again.

I used to play a lot of "Crossover Campaigns" in #VBAM, where I would have a random selection of alien factions from #StarTrek, #StarWars, #Babylon5, #Farscape, etc. and each time I encountered a new empire I would roll to see who it was that had showed up in the campaign.

LOL, I found this old image I made for an old #VBAM campaign where the Klingons from #StarTrek encountered the Spathi from #TheUrQuanMasters! This shot was composited together using some art I found from the internet, although the planet I think was from a Photoshop plugin from back in the day.

In my writing, I often leave Easter eggs as callbacks to #Starflight. For example, in the new #VBAM edition, the artifact used to defeat the "Harbingers" is basically a combination of the Black Egg and the Precursor bomb from #StarControl: a sleek, black spheroid that is used to destroy worlds.
