Rocky foreground with lichen covered rocks. Seaweed covered rocks beyond with the most amazing turquoise sea further out- some kind of algae that year made it even more impressive than usual

Rocks by the shore, Soay off Tiree
A rock face, believed to have been sculpted by receding glaciers, weathers all kinds of climate extremes, ranging from winter snowstorms to summer droughts. A spruce sapling barely clings on to a slight ledgeq.

A photo of Cobo Bay, Guernsey, in 1983 with a sample of the Cobo Granite (adamellite), an attractive pink granite, approx 570 million years old. Consists of potassium-rich orthoclase feldspar, giving it a pink colour, with grey plagioclase feldspar, glassy quartz and small black biotite mica crystals.

A small boy in blue Tโshirt and jeans rides a wooden rocking horse. The horse is carved from light wood and left unpainted so the grain of the wood is shown. The horse has a long brown mane and a red rosette on its neck.

A pile of beach rock, there are many shapes and sizes (including one heart-shaped). These are mostly grey and granite rocks, a permanent part of the shoreline at some local beaches).
From the beach to the backyard. A rock garden on a steep slope with rock steps, posts and a rope rail, dry creek beds of rock mostly hidden by greens and bright pinks of creeping thymes and other wildflowers. (A landscaping project at our former residence, created over a number of years).
A pile of boulders at the edge of an ocean beach, with a glimpse of blue ocean in the background and some grasses blowing in the wind in the foreground.
A pile of rocks leading out to and between two large ocean rocks. There is seaweed on the lower rocks, a few cormorant birds, a blue ocean and clear sky in the background.
An unusual formation of beach rock, eroded by salt water surf there are many colours and crevices.
A closer shot of the unusual rock, showing more lines, holes, oranges and blues.
Living in an area of very rocky ground and also minutes away from the ocean coast, this is a hard-to-choose photo challenge for me. (A photo library search for "Rock" brings up 5000 results) ๐ A few favourites for the close of week.

Dredge Piles informational sign Between 1898 and 1942, miners in the Breckenridge area operated giant dredges, scouring the gulches and river valleys for every last bit of gold. From 1905 to 1922, two dredges operated in French Gulch: the Reliance and Reiling dredges. They were among the most profitable in Breckenridge, recovering an average of $1,000 in gold per week (approximately $100,000 in today's dollars). The dredges did enormous damage to the environment, lining the river valleys with long piles of gravel. The Reiling dredge created the rock piles you can see from here
