He sighs as he runs his free hand through his soaked hair. “Unfortunately, I wasn't in the right headspace to tell you that at the time—Honestly, I'm not all that much better now, but if anything… What I’m sure of is that you’ll always be Dan Heng to me. No matter what your past consists of or what you look like.”
Caelus is tired of sifting through so many what ifs on his emotions since meeting up with Kafka, but this? This is something he has never doubted.
The silence that follows minus the rainfall makes him wonder if his companion didn’t hear him when the umbrella held over the Vidyadhara’s head suddenly shelters the Trailblazer as he’s enveloped in a tight hug.
All at once he’s hit by the scent of petrichor sea and lotus flowers meshed with maple tea leaves and paper books.
It leaves him stunned because Dan Heng has never initiated physical contact like this. Yet the sensation is so overwhelmingly soothing, it only takes seconds for Caelus to melt into his embrace and whisper, “I really missed you.”
“I never left.” Yet Dan Heng’s hold tightens.
All Caelus can do is nod. He can’t bring himself to ask if that applies to his wish of staying with the Astral Express. Especially when he recalls how the other was forced to reveal his identity.
He instantly feels the minute tension in Dan Heng’s body that indicates he’s realized something. By the Aeons, why did they get so good at reading each other?!
“Caelus… Did you think I was going to leave?”
The Trailblazer knows that if he opens his mouth now, his selfishness will tumble out and he’s not sure how welcome it would be in this conversation. So he stays silent.
Slowly, the Vidyadhara pulls back, his hands resting on either side of Caelus’ shoulders while cloudhymm magic keeps the umbrella steady over their heads.
