MESSAGE: I'm writing to you as a concerned member of the public, [relevant professional or academic status], and [relevant personal or local role]. I urge the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to issue a strong statement of condemnation on the conditions at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas and in ICE facilities across the United States for immigrant children. These facilities are hotbeds of illness, viral spread, neglect, and abuse. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and its agencies: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) should not house minors in their detention facilities at all, and if they insist on doing so, they should provide timely access to reliable, quality on-site medical care for detainees --especially minors.
