The first flowerheads of Blue Moor-grass, Sesleria caerulea. A sure sign that the wheel is turning and that #spring is here, even if we're not at the equinox quite yet.

Rainbow over Arnside Viaduct in Cumbria yesterday.
A 505m long viaduct carrying the Lancaster to Barrow railway line over the River Kent. Construction started in 1856, finished in 1857 and expanded to a two-track railway in 1863.

Dark, heavy clouds are in the sky and the white metal sides of the viaduct are shining in the sunlight. The estuary is full of water.
The sun came out and lit up the railway viaduct at high tide at Arnside today. #phonepics #Arnside
Blackcap, nowadays a fairly frequent winter visitor to our garden. Would've been nice if it had turned up last weekend for the #BigGardenBirdwatch

An expanse of sand and mud. The rippled surface is wet and shining in the sun. The sea can be seen in the distance and it is also shining in the sunlight. The currents in the sea and the varying consistencies of the sand create different hues and patterns across their respective surfaces. The sky above is pale blue and perfectly clear.
The beautiful but treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay.

An equal split between native and naturalised species (I think).

The railway viaduct at low tide, mostly sand with a small ribbon of waterin the foreground. The sky is blue and the fells are very clear in the background.
The same view as the previous photo, but the estuary is now filled with water, reflecting the blue sky above.

The Northern Belle Fireworks Diner from Liverpool to Ulverston stopped on Arnside Viaduct this evening for the display. The forecast rain putting them off I assume. It didn't rain and our Likkle Grandson had a great time 🥰

Sea Mayweed, Arnside
You can rely on Sea Mayweed to brighten up a coastal scene at this time of year. A near-ubiquitous species around the coastline of the British Isles . Have a look, hardly any species have distributions that are this clear - plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9...
