The Luzon Bleeding Heart Dove (so called because its red breast feathers look like it has been stabbed in the heart). It is extant to the Philippines but is primarily found on the island of Luzon (but also Polippo and Catanduanes -extremely rare in the latter); the favoured habitat includes primary and secondary forest. Much of the population is fragmented due to deforested and cultivated land. It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List with a decreasing population trend. Other negative effects include mining, hunting and trapping and road kill. It can be found from 0-1400 metres above sea level. This species feeds on berries, seeds and invertebrates on the ground. It usually occurs singly or in pairs. There are three subspecies.

This Luzon heart dove individual was particularly tame and took a fondness for me (I did not feed it). Perhaps it had be hand reared. Details of this species are in the ALT text of the first photo.

The green turaco (Tauraco persa) is native to parts of Central and Western Africa and inhabits savannah and forested areas. Turacos are unique because they are the are the only family of birds (Musophagidae) that produce their own green (turacoverdin) and red (turacin) pigments; both of which contain copper. They are frugivorous and consume fruits and plant materials. They have a lifespan of five to ten years but have been known to live up to 30 in captivity. They are mature at two years and produce two to three eggs and both sexes take it in turns to incubate the eggs for two to three weeks. The green turaco is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List but with a decreasing population trend that is believed to be due to the pet trade.

I love the colours of this long-tailed glossy starling with its iridescence. it has obviously extremely long tail feathers. This species is Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and the population trend is thought to be stable. This exquisite bird is native to a large belt of West and Central Africa and will consume fruits and invertebrates. It prefers areas of savannah, open woodland and cultivated fields.
