Een bonte specht die zijwaarts tegen een hangende pindasilo klampt. De vogel heeft een zwart-witte kop met een witte wang en een duidelijke rode vlek achter op het hoofd, een lichte borst, zwart-witte vleugels met witte vlekken, en rood onder bij de staart. De snavel is lang en puntig en wijst naar links. Rechts in beeld hangt een cilindervormig, bruin rooster-achtig voederrek met pinda’s erin. De achtergrond is onscherp en bestaat uit groene bladeren.

A small bird with green upperparts, a yellow face with olive markings, white wing bars, and pale underparts is sitting on a branch near our front deck. This is a male Black-throated Green Warbler. He’s one of the many warblers we see in our backyard. The Black-throated Green Warbler breeds in a wide variety of habitats throughout its range. In much of the Adirondack region, breeding pairs are most commonly found in coniferous forests or mixed woods. Our property is mostly mixed woods.
