The U.S. spent $30 billion to ditch textbooks for laptops and tablets: The result is the first generation less cognitively capable than their parents Neuroscientist Jared Cooney Horvath said older generations β€œscrewed up” giving students access to so much technology: β€œI genuinely hope Gen Z quickly figures that out and gets mad.”

"Gen Z is less cognitively capable than previous generations, despite its unprecedented access to technology... Gen Z is the first generation in modern history to score lower on standardized tests than the previous one." #edchat #bcedchat

From a pedagogical perspective, this also highlights the importance of place-based history. If you start talking to me about the seigneurial system, I’m going to jump out a window. But BC is home β€” even if these events happened a century before my family arrived β€” this is MY history. #bcedchat

Yesterday’s #patiopic. I was so grateful to see @vwoelders in Prince George. She presented about ARC-BC to #EDUC394. I am reminded by the teacher network created when #bcedchat and EDU-Twitter was β€œa thing” to meet and collaborate with BC Educators. I met a lot of great people.

Today’s #patiopic. I really need to make an intentional shift from X to Bluesky. Habits… Hope… History… are hard to break. I miss my edu-Twitter community & #bcedchat (pre-pandemic times). But change is good. Inevitable. Embrace. Make the shift. So… you’re welcome. My Twitter habits will be Bluesky.
