2020 Chardonnay Savoie AOP Domaine Dupasquier, 13%, flavors of ripe apple, pear, and a bit of quince, fine harmonious acidity. Excellent wine which pairs excellently with the dumplings and the veal.

Potato dumpling with strips of veal meat (Geschnetzeltes). Ingredients of sauce include shallots, garlic, roasted and pureed mirepoix and champignons, chicken and beef broth, cream and a small cup of coconut milk. I season with salt, pepper, tarragon, a whiff of cilantro and a glug of cider vinegar. YUMMY!

Two Expressions of Joseph Drouhin Chardonnay: Part 1 Maison Joseph Drouhin from Burgundy makes several different expressions of Chardonnay.  I received four bottles of their various Chardonnay wines, and in this article I will review two for you.  According to the winery, their Macon-Villages 2022 comes from a large region in the south end of Burgundy, close to Pouilly-Fuissé, which has clay and chalk soils. The size of this region allows considerable freedom in selecting wines with different characteristics.

Krug Grande Cuvée 171th Edition Brut Champagne, France Lemon in color with a golden hue. Pretty nose with flowers, yeast, citrus, lemons, green apples, limes, spices, herbs and minerals. Medium bodied with high acidity, and medium sized bubbles. Dry on the palate with limes, grapefruits, citrus, green apples, light earth, minerals, herbs, sea salt and light spices. Long finish with limes and light herbs. This is a delicious Champagne, but feels extremely young. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and interesting. Rich and tangy. Soft and smooth. Much better after 45 minutes of airtime, and better when not too cold. Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 37% Chardonnay and 18% Meunier. 12.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $250.

It's a personal 3.5, because there are more interesting Corpinnats, but if you are in the market specifically for a Cremant I'd rate it a 4 on price/quality.

Louis Revoir Cuvée Prestige Brut Champagne, France Pale lemon in color. Strong nose of citrus, apples, light yeast and minerals. Medium bodied with medium plus acidity, and medium plus sized bubbles. Dry on the palate with limes, light grapefruits, herbs, spices, earth, green apples and sea salt. Short finish with limes and spices. This is a nice entry level Champagne. Crisp and refreshing. A little unbalanced, but very enjoyable. Good by itself, and better with food. A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. 12% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $45.

Louis Roederer Collection 243 Brut Champagne Non Vintage, France Light golden in color. Strong nose of apples, citrus, pears, yeast, spices, light marzipan, brioche, minerals and white pepper. Medium plus in body with medium sized bubbles, and medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with red and green apples, citrus, lemons, yeast, sea salt, limes, light earth, herbs and spices. Long finish with limes and light marzipan notes. This is a delicious Champagne. Fruit forward, elegant and complex. Nicely balanced and easy drinking. Good right out of the bottle, spicy and entertaining. Good by itself as a sipping wine. A blend of 42% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 18% Pinot Meunier. Mostly from the 2018 vintage, with 30% from older vintages. Drank from a Magnum. 12.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $70.
