A Magnolia Stellata tree in my neighbour’s garden is covered in white star-shaped blooms. The Magnolia stands next to a wood fence and below a large Fir tree in the next garden. There was a slight frost this morning and another harder one forecast tonight. I fear for the Camellia in my patch and the Magnolias in the neighbouring gardens. After so much mild weather this might be too much for the delicate flowers.

Das quadratische Bildformat wird ausgefüllt durch eine weiße Narzissenblüte. Sie ähnelt einer üblicherweise gelben "Osterglocken-Narzisse", doch die Trompete ist proportional etwas größer und länger als von den Osterglocken gewohnt und nickt, während die sechs Nebenkronen-Blütenblätter sich waagerecht und etwas nach oben weisend abspreizen. Der Weißton erinnert an Kreide. Im Hintergrund ist unscharf aufrechtes Narzissenlaub und am unteren Rand des Bildes etwas Laub von Immergrün erkennbar.

Eine Tulpenblüte füllt das quadratische Bildformat nahezu völlig aus. Sie hat eine pokalartige Form, ist geöffnet und neigt sich ganz leicht nach rechts dem einfallenden Sonnenlicht entgegen. Die gelbe Narbe und junge Staubgefäße, von denen einige schon die pudrigen Pollen zeigen, sind gut erkennbar. Innen ist die Blüte einheitlich tomatenrot - die Farbe ist so intensiv, dass sich die einzelnen Blütenblätter optisch kaum voneinander trennen. Das vorderste Blütenblatt weist zum Betrachtenden hin und lässt erkennen, dass seine Außenseite wie bereift aussieht und die Farbe etwas matter erscheint. Das Laub ist hellgrün und weist, obwohl es unscharf im Hintergrund ist, feine dunkelgrüne Streifen auf. Volles Sonnenlicht scheint von rechts in die Blüte.
