New York, late 1970s. Subversion. Insolence. Impertinence. Ghost Galerie presents an exhibition born of a sudden emergence. A radical breath, appearing without permission in a fractured city. There, adolescent rebellions are traced in urgency, at night, on walls then in studios. The gesture, carried from walls to the space of creation, asserts its force and intensity, giving rise to an artistic language, made of new forms, born in the pressure of the present. A language that, in the studio, becomes a movement: post-graffiti. This movement settles nothing: the tension remains, but finds structure. An autonomous aesthetic sustained by a vital energy. The studio doesn’t dilute it, it deepens it — balancing tension and assertion. DONDI WHITE, LADY PINK, RAMMELLZEE, FUTURA 2000, CRASH, DAZE, QUIK, AONE, ZEPHYR, NOC, BEAR: artists whose works, created from the 1980s onward, reconfigure formal conventions and shift the very criteria of visibility.Photo : 80’s.
