Barnard 33 / IC 434 The Horsehead Nebula - telescope processed image. It isn't a glowing cloud but a dark nebula of cold gas and dust, visible only because it silhouettes against the bright red emission of IC 434.

Barnard 33 / IC 434 The Horsehead Nebula - unprocessed image. Hidden within its dense, dark "mane" are newborn stars currently forming, detectable only by infrared telescopes that can peer through the dust.

A deep-space astrophotography image of the galaxy NGC 4236. The galaxy appears as a large, elongated, and slightly tilted barred spiral with a soft, glowing white core and mottled blue-gray spiral arms. Scattered throughout the arms are bright, tiny blue knots indicating active star-forming regions. The galaxy is set against a vast, dark black background populated by numerous sharp, pin-point stars of varying brightness and color, ranging from cool white to warm orange. In the lower-left corner, there is a faint, hazy glow, likely reflecting light from a bright star just outside the frame.

NGC 4236 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Draco, located approximately 11 million light-years away. This image was captured on December 18, 2025.

The Horsehead Nebula angles across from the bottom right of the image towards the center, reaching towards the Flame Nebula at the top left which shines bright orange and red in a distinct flame shape.
