A blue tit facing the photographer looks elegantly to the side as it flares its tail feathers. The bird has perched on a small, still-bare winter branch of a beech tree.
The blue tit is fanning out its tail this spring.

The middle spotted woodpecker has clung to a large conifer cone hanging from a string and is using its sharp beak to peck out the remaining fat and seeds from the crevices, which had been filled with them for the birds.
Since he’s only visited our garden a few times this winter, it seems the middle spotted woodpecker is making up for it now. With its long, pointed beak, the bird can easily get to the tasty scraps of food.

A mooch around some secret spots locally with my Great Uncle this morning. The wild Daffodils were out in force in a few of the private areas we gained access to. I also had my first Brimstone butterflies of the year.

Roerdomp in het riet / Bittern in the reeds.
#roerdomp #bittern #BirdsSeenIn2026
Congrats! That's the beauty of patch birding ...

Two male blackbirds squabbling in the air above a half-snowed-in feeding spot: with their feathers spread and fixed on each other aggressively, they look like angry pterosaurs fighting to the death. It is snowing lightly; the wintery tranquillity of the surroundings contrasts with this cockfight.
Peace, my dear friends!
(I suppose spring is coming...)

A lunch hour trip to Lea Marston was in order today after news of ⭐Hume's Leaf Warbler⭐ broke late yesterday evening. Managed 3 decent, but brief views of the bird, also called occasionally. Just outside my 3km #localpatch boundary, but a solid addition to my #PWC2026 10km list #warksbirding
Out with the dog in our village at 5.50pm, 3 Woodcock flew over head from the woods to feed in the coast fields to a chorus of 3 Tawny Owls calling in the trees.

A new arrival in our village this afternoon. It's unlikely this Blackbird could go unnoticed in 18 houses, so I fancy it's in off the continent off this harsh weather. Nice.
