A one of a kind vintage 1960s SIGNED handmade copper enamel and bronze modernist cuff bracelet by Jack Boyd of San Diego. Boyd (1934-1982) was born and raised in Alpine, California ( a small town about 30 miles outside San Diego) and quickly showed an interest in art and creating his unique designs. At just 20 years of age, he joined the Allied Craftsmen of San Diego which included James Parker, the Woolleys, and Barney Reid (among others). His earliest work is always one of a kind and unique and decidedly mid century and constructivist in nature, while his later more brutalist jewelry items are cast bronze multiples and most likely re-issued multiple times as there was demand for them. This bracelet is a fine example of his much rarer early work, and is no doubt a unique and one of a kind creation. There is another similar shown in the catalog for the exhibit "San Diego Craft Revolution" (2011-2012) at the Mingei Museum in San Diego, and that one is shown on page 84 of the catalog. It is similar in construction, but the enamel section is completely different in design. This bracelet measures 2-1/4" wide at top, and fits my 7.5" wrist perfectly, but could be adjusted by a professional up or down a few sizes if needed. Due to the construction method of this bracelet, specifically how the enamel plaque is attached to the bronze cuff, I do not recommend that anyone attempt to size this bracelet themselves. Marked at back on the reverse of the enamel plaque with his early hand-engraved JB mark as shown in my photos. Excellent vintage condition.
